Identifying Food Allergies

Does anyone have tips on journaling to identify food allergies?

I feel like as I have gotten older I have developed more intense allergies, or the ingredients in food just keeps changing. Just when I think I have it figured out, I find something else that is a trigger. I just wish I could pinpoint things to avoid and know how to identify or explain allergies.

Does anyone else have food allergy issues? Anyone have allergies to additives of preservatives and know them specifically? Or do most people with minor issues just deal with it? Or only eat natural, self-prepared meals? Any experience with testing? Or is there any real advantage to testing after one has kept detailed journals identifying things on their own?

Thanks, guys!

I have been treating environmental allergies for 20 years.  This year I decided to try an elimination diet to discover my food allergies suspisions.  I am in my 7th week now.  The first three weeks were getting rid of a lot (anything that is reported causing allergic reactions).  Then I add back one item per week to determine a reaction.  I did have to go off of my Zyrtec to do this.  I keep a journal of what I eat and any symptoms at all.

In the first three weeks, I reacted to apples, peaches and cherries.  I have determined that my migraines are related to barometric pressure changes.  I have so far tested eggs, almonds and almond milk.  This week I am working on bananas (I have missed them).  Then I am going to different types of nuts and other healthy items before I reintroduce added sugars or bread with gluten.

In my teen years and twenties I discovered that I have reactions to saccharin, sorbitol and potassium sorbate.  I stay away from all artificial sweeteners.  I also stay away from caffeine.

Years ago, when I was being tested for environmental allergies, the allergy doctor asked if I needed any food testing as well.  I let him know about artificial sweeteners but I didn't let him do any food testing.

I hope this helps you in some way.
