Losing Motivation with Charge 3!

I need recommendations or instructions! I am a highly motivated person, usually exercising at least an hour to two hours daily in spite of having MS. Before buying my Charge 3, I was keeping track of my food intake on an app called Fat Secret. The lovely thing about this app was that it remembered the food I was taking in, so if I started to type the food it came up immediately. It also had a large variety of food you prepared at home, such as a cup of raw vegetables or other foods that you would eat while trying to lose weight, versus processed or restaurant food. And with it I lost 20 pounds. I'm finding the complete opposite with the Charge 3. Inputting food is a pain, because there seems to be no memory of the same kind of food I just ate, and instead of food prepared at home, the examples are processed store foods or restaurant food. Now I understand with the Charge 3 that if you use the same food, all the food you ate with it will be displayed, but I don't remember the exact same food from one day to the next. Also there is no bright selection for the watch display and so it's hard to see in the sunlight to record exercise. Most of time I just don't do it! Bummer! I am losing motivation to lose the last 15, and I've never been in this frame of mind before. I should be motivated with the Charge and it seems I have the complete opposite attitude. Any suggestions??

Hi @LadyPenzance and welcome to the forums! You ask an interesting question. I know from experience that Fitbit will interact with Weight Watchers and a couple other apps of that type so I went to the source, and sent an email to FatSecret customer service. I’ll let you know what they say.

In the meantime, congratulations on the hard work to get down to a healthier weight!  I have one suggestion to make it easier to enter food to Fitbit. Rather than trying to work on that small Charge 3 screen, use the Fitbit app on your phone ... bigger screen, better brightness. As far as motivation goes, here are a few suggestions:

  • Get involved in the Fitbit challenges. Friend me. I’d be happy to pull you into some of the ones I participate in.
  •  Set up realistic goals for yourself in the Fitbit app. It may sound silly but I look forward to those vibrations and fireworks.
  • Set up non-food rewards for yourself. Maybe them small and manageable. For example, you only have 15 lbs to go. Rather than setting 5 or 10 lb mini goals, maybe do rewards for 3. Buy yourself some flowers. Or a new book. Be creative.

Finally, let me share what my Granddaughter made for me. I set it as my phone’s screen saver so it stares me in the face multiple times a day.

Hello! Hopefully you can help me out with some understanding. The Charge 3 is a device. Do you mean the fitbit app? I understand inputting food information isn't the best with fitbit compared to other apps. What you could do is see if Fat Secret can integrate with your Fitbit Charge 3 that way you can keep putting in food information in Fat Secret but use Fitbit to monitor your exercise! As for the brightness in sunlight, just cover your hand over it to create a shade to quickly check it.

Hin @AC363904 - Yes, I mean the app. For any non-Fitbit apps, they integrate with your Fitbit account (if you grant permission), not just with an individual device. At least, I’ve never seen any that will do that. When I was in WeightWatchers, it synced to my Fitbit account ... then showed up in my app ... and was them transferred to my device when synced. But I had to enter my food in the WW app.

Good tip on the brightness!
