If you're pregnant, you need to read this...
Yes, this is a very important topic if you're pregnant or if you're trying to conceive in the future. Some foods and drinks may increase the risk of harm to you and your baby during pregnancy. Some foods may need to be cooked or prepared a certain way and others are best to avoid completely.
It is important for a pregnant woman to have a healthy and balanced diet which includes a lot of fruits and vegetables. However, there are certain foods like pineapple, raw eggs and green papaya that should be not be consumed during pregnancy or at least during the first trimester.

When my daughter was pregnant, she was also told to avoid unpasteurized milk and cheeses.

Thank you for adding this information @SunsetRunner 🤗, they have a good point on this since cheese made with unpasteurized milk may contain E. coli or Listeria. Instead of eating soft cheese, it's best to eat hard cheese such as Cheddar or Swiss. Pregnant woman should pay particular attention at farmers' markets to make sure that fresh and soft cheeses are pasteurized. I loved this article about health where you find a wider list of chesses you can eat during pregnancy. 🧀👌

I think one of the first things we get at our congrats you're pregnant visit is a list of do and don't. That includes food, beverages, meds and every other thing that can be ingested. Having said that, before all this, let's say the 80s and earlier, pregnant women pretty much lived how they did before they were pregnant. Babies were born and are living well into their 80s and 90s. Not advocating for mistreatment of your body, but, sometimes we can give a mommy a pass...

Hi @emili, great point of view. Before we have internet and all the information available for our doctors a lot of moms live great lives. I think that we need to be aware of the information that doctors provide and be careful but not stress about this. What never fails is the advice of granny hand in hand with the wisdom of the doctors. 🙂

Agreed! And besides, I wouldn't eat most of the things listed above pregnant or not... when my blood test came back that my iron was on the low end of normal I asked my doctor for his suggestions on how to get more iron in my diet and he said "Liver is the best way" half-joking. I said "Um, not gonna do that..." and he said to cook everything in a cast-iron pan and enough would leach into the food to boost my iron! I decided on enriched hot cereal instead.

Good point @MrsTreds! We need to take the best decision for our health. As we're always working toward maintaining a non-stick surface on our cast iron. I wanted to share a useful tip with you, after seasoning, the best way to maintain a good season is to always use ample fat. Butter, lard, coconut oil, ghee, and olive oil all provide a great non-stick surface and are healthy fat options. 😉👌
