Neck surgery on Tuesday =( Need HFLC advice

Hey, guys. I have to have a relatively minor surgery on my neck on Tuesday, and will be wearing a neck corset type of thing for about a week. The surgeon warned me I'll have a hard time chewing and won't be able to exercise.

I've been doing the high-fat-low-carb diet and seeing great results, and while I realize that I might have to go off-diet for this week and don't think that's a big deal, I was hoping to not completely obliterate my diet by eating yogurt and mashed potatoes (especially since I've been doing so well! I got into my old dresses today and looked great!).

So does anyone have any meal ideas? So far the only thing I've been able to come up with is a creamy broccoli-cheese soup =/

Sorry to hear about your surgery @Megara9! As I remember @carl669 is on LCHF for the longest.

I also found this Keto thread and this LCHF thread on our Forums. Also, I found a similar case on MyFitnessPal where a member had an injury in his jaw; so he requested tips on how to mantain LCHF while in recovery

Hope this helps! Get well soon Cat Happy

how many carbs per day do you normally eat? just trying to gauge how low carb you like to be.

mashed up avocados are a good source of fat.  though they do have 12g carbs per cup, 10g of that is fiber.  how about scrambled eggs?  they're easy to chew.  you could also do some bulletproof coffee (coffee, 2 tbsp coconut oil, 2 tbsp butter - blend it all together).  i've also just eaten some coconut oil straight.  (i like the taste of it).

there's nothing necessarily wrong with yogurt.  just make sure you get the full fat stuff.  and, get the plain stuff and add your own toppings.

Thanks for the links and the info!

Just a little update:  It's been a bit over a month since my surgery and a few days ago the doc gave me the OK to start moving around. I just have to be careful about not doing too much, so I've stuck to walking. I'm supposed to stick to just that for the next month and then I can start working out for reals!

As for the diet, I just wound up going off keto. I didn't have much appetite thanks to the painkillers and it hurt to chew, but I was also mostly staying in bed so I didn't burn that much to drive up my apetite anyway. I really appreciate everyone's suggestions and am now getting back into keto 🙂

Thanks for all the replies and sorry for not answering them sooner.

cheers!
