Not a breakfast person

I’m not a morning eater, but I know that it is important to get my metabolism going!  I eat granola & yogurt a lot!  I need more options for quick yet pretty healthy breakfast foods?!

Lately what has been working pretty well for me is over night oats (few minutes of prep the night before means an easy ready to go breakfast) and I also had great results when I made to go "egg cups" scrambled eggs with a little turkey sausage and veggies in a muffin tin baked. You can personalize them with whatever ingredients you like. The muffin tins made great little servings that were also great for an easy quick breakfast. I work nights so coming home at 6am it is nice to have something to just pull out of the fridge. I look forward to reading other's suggestions as well, I get bored eating the same healthy breakfast over and over.

I usually wake up very early to go to work (7 AM) and what i do everyday except weekends is a shake of fat free milk, one banana, and a spoon of cinnamon

I usually also make a sandwich with a slic eof cheese and one slice of ham. But it all depends on how you feel. A sandwich for breakfast might be ok with me, but maybe in the morning you don't feel like eating a sandwich

I have these Lundberg Thin Stackers Rice Cakes. They have several varieties, but I like the red rice and quinoa. I spread Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter mix (thin layer) on two, and sprinkle on pomegranate seeds. Toast or a bagel with any nut butter and banana is also good. Basically a type of bread or rice cake with nut butter and any fruit.

I'm not a breakfast person either, so I usually have a couple of snacks - one at 11 am and one around 1 pm - before lunch at 3 pm (Yes, 3 pm - I know, not healthy!) Each snack 100 to 150 calories. Maybe grapes, a fiber bar, pretzels. Seems to work for me!

@SherriL1 I’ll definitely have to try that strategy!! Thanks!!  I try to keep granola/fiber bars for a quick snack after high intensity workouts.  I need to get some more fruits😬   Yeah 3 pm is not a healthy time for lunch but if that is when you have time for it there is nothing you can do!😊

I know there are sayings like "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" etc., but these are just that, sayings, not something backed by scientific evidence. If you don’t feel hungry in the morning and have enough energy to sail until lunch without resorting to unhealthy snacks before that, then just skip breakfast and you’ll be fine. Enjoy the extra time you can spend in bed!

As to metabolism, it is mostly affected by the quantity of food you eat at the daily level (and over longer periods), in relation to the energy you expend, not so much by how you split that food over various meals. Which means your metabolism can be just fine even if you skip breakfast.

breakfast can really be about anything you like to eat, it doesn't have to fit in the eat this for breakfast only category your main objective is to put calories in you.  That said just find what you really really like (not dessert or ice cream obviously) and eat a half portion of it then go. I do a protien shake mixed with coffee and that seems to work for me as well.

I do a lot of fitness writing but just got my Fitbit at Christmas. I like breakfast but used to be tempted to skip it bc "calories." I usually eat whole milk Greek yogurt (small portion) with 1-2 fruit (small amounts of each fruit to make 1 fruit serving). You can make a "banana split" sundae with the yogurt, granola, strawberries & blueberries. This has good micro nutrients. Basically look at the protein you are getting in the yogurt - you want to get as much protein as you can out of it. I also drink coffee with almond milk and I do get the type that has increased protein in it.

Overnight oats is another easy one. Check out recipes and don't go for the ones that mix a lot of sweets, caramel etc. You can use almond milk and almond milk yogurt or the greek yogurt/skim milk. Put nuts, fruit, granola in it.

If I'm going to go all protein then it's hard to go wrong with a couple of eggs and a breakfast meat. If you have bread, don't eat bread PLUS - like pancakes! Toast! def not optimal nutrition.

I've done the same thing with eggs, cheese, and breakfast meat trying to recreate the Starbucks egg bites.

Look super hard at the nutrition in any type of protein or supplement bar. A lot of them are not worth eating. Like with the yogurt, look at how much protein you're getting as compared to the total calories. I saw you're in HS? Well here I am lecturing at ya because my daughter would never listen  to me about anything. I'm going to be 57 in 6 weeks and I am not only a good weight for my age I'm in the "excellent" category looking to move up to athlete with my cardio fitness. And - I smoked for ages! After all this nutrition writing I've done I truly think it's important to eat sufficient protein, especially for women. Your body will use MAX protein at your age so you don't have to be a protein pig like I am. Protein directly builds muscle. Carbs give energy but they do not directly build or repair muscle.

The way many women eat (low protein, high carbs, low fat) is almost a guarantee you won't have enough muscle mass not just for strength but to burn sufficient calories so you can eat normal meals and not drive yourself nuts starving yourself.

This is the idea behind keto, Atkins, and Paleo. You do not have to eat that way but the more people eat sweets (peanut butter is full of sugar and sweetener for example - eat the natural type with no added sugar) or excessive carbs the harder it is for our bodies to stay fit.

There is no such thing as "starting up" your metabolism. That is old science. You can pretty much skip breakfast and have a cup of coffee if you'd like.

In addition, granola not only does not "boost" your metabolism but starts the fat storing process first thing in the morning due to the sugar content.

Some high protein breakfast options are eggs, nut butters, yogurt. Combine with some fiber (spinach, greens, seeds etc) and you're good to go.

Dude - if you want to help someone, don't talk to them that way. The reason people eat breakfast is they are hungry after 12 hours with no fuel. You are no more an "expert" than I am. But what I said is based on recent articles I've researched and written with extensive documentation for fitness and nutrition companies. A lot of people don't like breakfast. It's still important to put some nutrition in the body before becoming active for the day.
