Popsicles

So,  I fall into the category of not denying myself any specific food while dieting.  I just work it into my calorie count.  I've been buying these 90 calorie frozen treats called Tiger's Paw.  These are lime sherbet with a partial chocolate coating.  There's three versions, with different flavoured sherbet but same basic idea.  I don't fall into the belief that carbs are bad, but I usually prefer to take my carbs in mostly through fruits and vegetables, sometimes pasta and rice, but rarely through mainly sugar items.  On top of the fact that, even on sale, they are expensive.  Years ago I used to make my own version, so I did this again yesterday.

1 package instant fat free pudding mix (also sugar-free)

60g protein powder (used an isolate, chocolate flavour, that disolves well)

2 cups 1% milk (after this is used up I'll probably use 2% or whole milk)

3.375 oz of chopped rhubarb (more about this later)

I whisked the protein powder with the milk first.  I've made these in the past where the protein powder didn't disolve well.  It actually doesn't make that big of a difference, but it's more blended this way.  I microwaved the rhubarb until soft.  I usually find sugar-free items too sweet.  In fact I often put vitamin C crystals in my protein shakes when I make them, to cut the sweetness.  The amount of rhubarb was just what was left in the fridge.  It was raining and I didn't want to get more.  It didn't add or detract from the mix.  Maybe just added a bit of volume as I ended up getting 10 popsicles.

Then I just followed the instant pudding mix instructions and added the rhubarb at the last minute.  It made 10 chocolatey popsicles.

Denying, restricting foods doesn't work in the longer run (deny favourite food one day, two days.. or longer).. then eventually going to have it anyway due not possible to resist.

Everything with care as it's not a diet but must be sustainable in the longer run.

Enjoy all noms (even those special treats)

Side effect: eating anything desired in the moment (being mindful about), prevents binge eating to.

What you're doing is what I'm doing. I don't want to be one of those people where I have to deny myself my favorite foods. I want to be able to have pizza when I want to. Same thing with things like cheeseburgers, cake or the other fun foods. I just don't eat them on a regular basis, and I also work them into my calorie count. Sometimes, before I even eat the food, I'll put them into my food log to see where they fall in my radio dial whether they are going to make me fall in the green, yellow or red.

Agreed, and I had pizza tonight.  Years ago the town I lived in had a bakery that used to sell pizza shells.  We would make personal pizzas with the toppings of your choice.  I was shopping today out of town and saw another of the same chain.  At 220 cals for the shell I made pizza for dinner, tonight with pepperoni, olives, sauce and cheese.  I'll put the rest in the freezer for later.  I'm thinking turkey meat with tacos seasonings, salsa and cheese another night.

Sounds yummy!  I'm the same with you - I don't deny myself.  I'm a firm believer in, "it's not what you eat, it's how much you eat."

If you didn't have rhubarb, what would you have used instead?

I made a second batch yesterday without the fruit.  You could probably add any kind of fruit, but the double chocolate from the pudding and the protein powder will probably over power anything.  I will probably look to see what other puddings are in the store next time.  I have to look around as I think I bought a strawberry shake mix for my elderly mother (wasn't her thing, she drinks vanilla boxed drinks that I buy at Costco).  Chocolate Strawberry might be good.
