Hey everyone! I like to put vegan protein powder in my smoothies. It really helps me to feel full and eat less. I used to make my smoothies with vanilla protein powder, but it tends to mask the taste of all the other ingredients. All my smoothies had the same vanilla taste... Boring. So, I bought an unflavored protein powder, but now my smoothies taste awful. Do you know any ingredient I could add to my smoothies that would mask the taste of my powder? Thank you!

Timely question for me! I have decided to finish off my vanilla and chocolate protien powders and never purchase them again. I've cleaned up my diet so much that now even the powders give me an "off" feeling in my stomach after consuming them.
I've searched around the web and received advice to give my smoothies a protein boost with chia or hemp seeds, soaked nuts or nut butters. I am not a vegan, and recently tried putting 1/3 cup All-Whites into a smoothie and I liked the results. No egg flavor, a nice creamy smoothie and I really got a boost from it. A friend also introduced me to this blog - even though it says "baking addiction" she has lots of healthy recipes and smoothie recipes. http://sallysbakingaddiction.com/category/drinks/
I also saw a product at BJ's called PB Fit - it is non-GMO, defatted peanuts. For a peanut butter chocolate smoothie (a fave) I can omit the chocolate protein powder and use some PB Fit and organic cocoa, sweeten with honey or stevia. I'm SO OVER expensive protein powders!

No one needs "protein powder", not even if you are a vegetarian. All fruits, vegetables and particularly legumes have protein in them. Potatoes (for instance) are natures most nearly perfect food. If you eat the calories you need (even on a weight loss program plus exercise), then all the protein required is there.

I know, I know, no one needs protein powder to survive. But when a smoothie is your breakfast, I think it is pretty important to have a healthy dose of proteins. The ingredients in mine are only rice / yellow pea / hemp / flaxseed oil / chicory root. I don't see the harm in that. I also add nut butter, greek yogurt, chia seeds and other high protein stuff. I think it is a pretty healthy meal, gives me enough energy for a 5K run and it keeps me full until lunch. What do you think?
I will try honey, any other suggestion?

Thank you for the website, I really like it. 🙂 Organic cocoa and stevia seem like a good idea. I'm a fan of Reese's peanut butter cups, so any smoothie with chocolate and peanut butter looks awesome to me!

Whenever I have something that doesn't have the taste I desire I add a little Himlayan Pink Sea Salt. It really helps, a lot. That and raw honey as suggested. But I am trying to keep my sugar intake at 0 so a tiny pinch of Sea Salt helps with that and satisfies the savory craving.

Honey, even raw, isn't vegan. Clearly, this doesn't matter if you aren't vegan but as in the OP it said, "vegan protein powder" it may be a consideration. Sweet Freedom or agave nectar could be used instead, though 🙂

I own a bakery and start work at 1 or 2 in the morning. I used to work 8 or 9 hours without eating so I wouldn't get hungry. Now on a weight loss campaign, I see how crazy that is. I started setting up a smoothie in the blender the night before (we have a coffee shop too so we have everything there) with almond milk, protein powder (strawberry or chocolate so far), spinach (have some kale on the way to try) and an egg. It seems to get me going in the morning. I am trying to find ways to bump my macros up to higher protein and lower carb and this seems to be a good start. I'm not hungry while I work and seem to have more energy. I sometimes add some fruit puree or a touch of chocolate sauce to add some flavour - have to be some pleasures in life :-). What else is a good add for nutrients/protein? I am hearing chia seeds, I'll have to see if I can find some. I live in the middle of nowhere so sourcing good ingredients can be a challenge.

I use Iron Vegan Protien , with organic Cherry blend fruit from Costco and Super Sea Greens for my morning smoothie. Tastes great and keeps me full for the moring commute and start up

I only use unflavoured protein powder, precisely because it doesn’t have any taste (plus it has a higher content in the actual stuff, protein): I add a teaspoon of dark, unsweetened cocoa powder and one third of an overripe banana (I always have overripe bananas around). The sweetness of the overripe banana is perfect to hide the tastelessness of the unflavoured protein powder.

Peanut butter powder. Its the greatest! Costco and Amazon have the cheapest. Super markets are too expensive.

Hey myriam4psl.
To cover up the taste, you could add some honey or natural strawberry sirup ( available in other tastes too ).
Literally everything that tastes sweet or is strong in taste anyway, should do the job.
HOWEVER, I personally can't recommend protein powders of any type...better is to keep a balanced diet. But if you are a big fan of quick smoothies giving you proteins, you rather add some raw egg instead of protein powder. But that's your choice 🙂
Cheers.
