Season fruits - regional

Hi everyone.

As the weather gets hotter and the summer is showing his warmest side, I changed my snacks for fresh fruits during this season

At this time of year , I love mangos and peaches, that's what's most available during this season locally.

I take a small container and put some pieces of them to carry to work or as snacks on the traffic jams.

I love to have squares of watermelon on a warm/hot midday.

I put some lime and salt to some fruits and it's just refreshing.

Or make juices.

What fruits do you have on summer on your location?

How do you prepare it? Or do you have it raw and plain?

Comment below, maybe we'll get to discover some fruits that we'll need to try.

I am pretty picky when it comes to fruit, but I really want to try new things. I am a conflicted individual, lol.  I love to have cucumber slices with lemon and a bit of Tajin powder (this also works for melon, watermelon).  Most of the time, I will do smoothies with pineapple, black/red raspberries, and strawberries.  But one unknown step at a time, thinking about adding a habit to try a new fruit once every few weeks or once a month.  mmm, wonder what I should start with.  Open to suggestions 🙂

@SallyWally21 , Nice to have you around.

I also love berry smoothies, but I add a banana to have a bit of body on it.

I've tried Tajin, and find it nice, but only use it when I cannot find a lime at hand.

Have you tried, dragonfruit (pitaya) or startfruit (carambola)

@JuanFitbit once the local fruit and veggie stand opens, I'm ready to buy. Sadly, my first peaches, watermelon and broccoli purchases weren't the best. The peaches didn't have much flavor. The watermelon was only half ripe. The broccoli was bitter raw and even when cooked! It's not deterred me, though. I made up for it with cantaloupe, honeydew melon, blueberries, and black raspberries. It's good to keep cut up fruits in the fridge for a quick snack.

@SallyWally21  cucumber salad (mostly cukes, but mixed with tomatoes, pasta, whatever is around) with a light dressing has kept me happy this week. I'm growing some cucumbers on the back patio, so I hope to include those and my own tomatoes once they are ready to harvest. Smoothies are always good.

I love star fruit and buy it whenever I can.  We don't get much where I live, but when it is available, I will get as much as I think will keep for a week or so.  I've never seen the dragon fruit but would love to try it.  I wish I could find good peaches and plums where I live, but they are always as hard as a rock, and totally lacking in taste, so I avoid them.  Apricots are no problem in the summer, of course, but they can be rather difficult to find as well.  I have found that trying to eat apples with dentures is a total flop, so they are out of the questions, unless I soften them by frying or maybe microwaving them.  For me, that is just too much work for a snack.  Oranges I will eat when the navel variety are available, since they are the only oranges that can survive the trip to my store in a palatable fashion.  Grapes - well they are my staple for fruit now, I can get them at any time of the year, and mostly are quite decent to eat.  I used to eat watermelon just about daily, but I bit into a piece years ago that had gone bad - VERY bad - and that bite has ruined it for me.  I still eat a little from time to time, but I just don't trust it.  I have never been able to pick out a truly ripe and good other type of melon, so I just stay away from them, too.  I love bananas, but they are a bit too high in calories for me, and they never last unless I buy green ones, and they are all ripe at the same time!  I also love berries, but find they are hard to eat without getting the little seeds under my dentures (they can hurt like the dickens!), so except for blueberries, I avoid them as much as possible.  This has turned into a long complaint, I'm afraid, but that was not my intent.

I love eating fruit! It is very good for me to eat it now, because I am on periodic fasting (you can find out about it here https://betterme.world/articles/intermittent-fasting/ ). This is a very cool diet that includes a lot of fruits and vegetables. That's why I'm happy that it's getting warmer and I can eat a lot more fruit

It is just heading into winter here in Australia so the number of available fruits is dropping. I love berries but they are getting a bit 3xpensive now so I am mostly eating oranges and apples, but with some gold kiwifruit and grapes for variety.

Hi everyone. Thank you for sharing. Got a lot of ideas and learned about new fruits to add to my bucket list for getting and trying them .

One of the most impressive for me, was the gold Kiwi, described by NellyG. Just got an example of this, last week and it was so delicious.
I'm keen and curious about what else you all share and recommend.

Jut got my hand on some guaba. Haven't eaten them since my childhood. And went all flashbacks tasting it again.

We have decided to start growing some of our own fruit.  So far, we have Chestnut, Wine Crisp, Zestar and Honey Crisp Apple Trees.  We also have two kinds of pear trees and two kinds of strawberry plants (Monterey and Seascape).  I am so excited for harvesting season to arrive 🙂
