Just curious: what are "1g net carb Brownies"? Are these made by you from scratch, following a recipe such as this one? Or is it some ready-made powder to which you add water before baking?

In any case, do keep us posted on how things turned out!

It's from a box, called "Carb Rite brownies" bought via Amazon, it's in a
red box. They taste great. I only had one, but they went fast.
I usually eat Slim Jim's when I want a little snack.

Thanks! So it’s a powder to which you add eggs, softened butter and a little bit of water. I had a look at the nutritional information (source😞

The claim that it is 1.5g "net impact carbs" is a bit far-fetched IMO. First of all, there are in fact 19g of actual total carbs in a serving (= 1 brownie). Low-carbers have come with this debatable (no real science behind it) concept of "net carbs", usually obtained by substracting fiber from total carbs. But there are only 3g of fiber in a serving!

It appears the key here is what is labelled as "Sugar alc" (15g), which is the same as maltitol. From Wikipedia:

Maltitol is a sugar alcohol (a polyol) used as a sugar substitute. It has 75–90% of the sweetness of sucrose (table sugar) and nearly identical properties, except for browning. It is used to replace table sugar because it is half as caloric, does not promote tooth decay, and has a somewhat lesser effect on blood glucose. In chemical terms, maltitol is known as 4-O-α-glucopyranosyl-D-sorbitol.

So much for the claim the product contains no artificial sweeteners:

Does "4-O-α-glucopyranosyl-D-sorbitol" sound as something natural to you?

Anyway, it appears that because maltitol "has a somewhat lesser effect on blood glucose", it doesn’t count as real carbs and can therefore be deducted from total carbs in order to get the "net impact carbs".

I wonder whether it is worth all the trouble (just to avoid using a little bit of sugar).

Oh my! Thank you, and here I thought I was having guilt free brownie.
Too funny, well I still managed to drop one pound in spite of all that
sugar.

I appreciate you keeping me on my toes. Curious what is your go to foods
when you want a snack.

How long have you been on the Keto diet?

Oh, I don’t do keto, never have and probably never will. I have good insuline sensitivity and therefore have no particular reason to dread carbs. As to snacks, I normally eat 4-5 smaller meals a day, which means there isn’t so much time in-between meals. If/when I feel a need to snack, it’s more out of boredom than because I’m truly hungry, so I try to keep myself busy (and far away from the kitchen!). I tend to snack on fruits if I feel like eating something sweet, or on rye bread with cheese if I’m more in the mood for something salted.
