Weird measurements for food

HI fitbitters! 😄

Still getting used to things as I just got my fitbit for Christmas. Does anyone else have trouble with some of the food measurements not being in easy to compute values? For instance as a family meal we had bowtie pasta in oil, so I figured if I estimated how many cups of cooked pasta I had, I'd be fine to log it later.

But no, the only option I could find were in grams (or ounces...same difference to me!). There's no way I want to bring a scale in to family dinner. I wish there were some more handy measurements, you know, something you could eyeball and estimate.

How do you guys handle this?

Heh, my question would be the exact opposite. I have to enter every food as a new food because of the weird "cup" or "serving" or "portion" measurement 🙂

You can always create a new food with your own measurement though, it's quite easy and an option every time the list of foods to choose from comes up.

As the other poster said I would make a custom measurement. I know that feeling becuase I am celaic and even though there is a good amount of GF food on the list at times I still have to do the custom measurements.

for what its worth, you will never have accurate intake if you don't measure. I don't know if that is a priority, but if losing weight is the goal, you should measure. It will make it easier to track. My opinion of course..

I find for most foods that you enter there is a pulldown menu that allows you to change units (often metric and standard, volume, weight, serving, etc).  As far as serving goes, if you click on the nutrition facts tab on a food it will show you the NFT (nutrition facts table) which has the serving size on it.  That way you know what the recomended serving is and can aim to eat that much or use that as a decision how much to eat.

I really prefer to pre-log my foods before I eat.  Then I can see that this food is really high in carbs or fat and maybe cut that portion in half and increase my portion of something else.  I have a good sense of how to fill my plate before I eat and then that is what I take and that is what I eat.  I find that way I do not get "sticker shock" when I enter it later.  This is extremely helpful both in home cooking and at a restaurant.  I have made my meal decision more than once when comparing two menu items in the food log and the numbers make my deicsion for me.

You  have to measure and weighe the food before you eat it. If that is not possible, sometimes your going to have make your best guess. For example, homemade lasagna and spagetti. Figure out how much a cup or a 1/2 cup is.  I would also  buy one of those Chef Boy Ardee's Lasagna Microbowls, and see how much is in them. I think it is around 180 calories. Use the bowl as a guide or even a Smart One's package for future reference. Sometimes, I will cut the label off a package, or keep the container, after I wash it, because I figure having that info around later will  help me.

Fitbit please add in cup measures into your serving sizes. Just started to use my fitbit and it's so frustrating to calculate some foods. Tonight at resturant, how do add that food into food tracker. 🤔 please please add in cups to help us measure food portions.
