What are some good foods to help alleviate muscle cramps/spasms?

I am having horrible muscle cramps, but not in my legs.  They are in my forearms, feet and abdominal region.  My muscles completely restrict and lock up and it's so painful!  I eat a banana a day as it is.  Just trying to figure out what I am lacking to be getting these spasms.

On a side note, I have gone from barely working out to a fully charged running schedule and lifting schedule.  I know my body is out of balance right now.

I have read that the lack of Magnesium can cause such cramps. Get your Magnesium level in blood checked. I take 250 mg of Magnesium supplement every day and my cramp problems are much less.

Bananas are a good food to have after a workout (the potassium helps) or I have found a coconut water (Coco Vita is the brand I like) is great for potassium (to help muscle cramps) and rehydrate you.

I have this problem too. I have tried all of these, as well as yogurt and just about every other home remedy suggested to me. The most reliable thing I have found is 2-3 times a week, I drink the lower calorie Gatorade. It isn't an immediate solution, but if I keep up on it, I either have very mild cramps or no cramps.

I don't know if it is calcium, magnesium, or the rest of the electrolytes in the Gatorade, but I have found that for me, Gatorade has the best balance and is the most reliable. Good luck and let us know if you find something that works for you.

I am a massage therapist and have had muscle cramping in the past and magnesium and increased water consumption will work!
