What's the best protein for breakfast?

ANSWERED

Hi everyone and Merry Christmas! Just got my Fitbit Force and am wondering what's the best protein for breakfast? I make my own breakfast smoothies during the week and usually add protein powder to them. Right now I have Pure Protein Whey 25 mg, I bought this from Walmart. Is one protein powder better than the other?

Hey there @W247 ! I've found some really nice websites that have Gluten and Dairy free recipes, check them out:

  1. Simply Gluten-free
  2. Dr Frank Lipman's Website
  3. Grass Fed Girl
  4. Yum Universe

Hope this helps! Cat Very Happy

Vanilla Greek yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit. There's protein in both the yogurt and in the granola, plus it's easy to grab on the go if you sleep past your alarm on a semi-regular basis like I do.

I love their products. No offense, but you sound like someone that tried MLM, and could not make money at it... so, its all got to be a scam.  lol

I like the company as well. Not a distributor personally... but I love the products.

Oatmeal is good for helping cholesterol levels...I have my own chickens, so I know what is in my eggs...I can't free range them, due to foxes, coyotes, hawks, owls, etc. but they get clippings when we mow the lawn and lots of veggies from our very large garden. The only time they eat a lot of commercial feed is in the winter when they are not laying anyway...I find two eggs with toast to be the most filling morning meal, though I do eat oatmeal a lot for the cholesterol control and it runs a close second. I use raisins for sweetening, and add cinnamon. I add half a bagel because I like bagels!

I agree with the first statement.

Having stomach issues myself - I stick to the same meals all week and they really only differ when I am bulking or cutting and/or cheat days/cheat meals. That being said, Whey is universally accepted as the best form of protein to consume upon awakening - AKA 1st Meal. I have used Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protein (Gold Standard) for almost a decade now and though it is a blend, the main ingriedent is Whey Protein Isolate.

As for everything else you wrote - given your post was a long time ago - I would like to know where you learned this and/or read this? (Study, Journal, etc...) That 20g serving comment is false and unfortunately I have heard it a lot (Mostly from Doctor(s) who are so against Protein Powders' in general that they "claim" it is bad for the kidneys and from those that have just heard it and took it to be true). Keep in mind this isn't an attack, judgement, nasty remark or anything of the sort - I just have heard Trainers' saying stuff like this all the time and never understood where they came to take this as factual.

The more natural, the better for me. Chia seeds, Hemp seeds, flax seeds, and left over beans.

The best protein is the one you'll eat.  If you're buying a protein supplement do research to trust who makes it, trust what the label says, and the one that fits best into your lifestyle. Eating protein for any meal should be part of a balanced meal, one that includes proper portions of carbs, fiber, proteins and fats.

I recently found some proteing powder @ Sprouts that is awesome.  It's in bulk so you weigh it your self, but it has no flavor so it takes on the flavor of what ever you blend it with and it's inexpensive.  Where I usually buy a 2 to 3 pound container for $25 to $40, depending on the brand I got 6 1/2 pounds for $30.

You said taking more than 20g of protein per meal is "Wasted". That the rest of the protein isn't utilized. That is very wrong. Your body digests every protein source at a different rate. You're just throwing numbers in the air now.

I make my own chorizo (Lisa Fain's Homesick Texan recipe for red pork chorizo) but with the leanest turkey I can find. It has 8g protein in a 2 oz serving and only 47 calories. I scramble it with one egg and top it with 1/4 cup fat free greek yogurt and YUM! A protein-packed breakfast.

I also do this -- I make mine ahead of time (on Sunday's) so they are easy to microwave in the morning when my kids are sleeping and then I dont have to make much noise!

Someone else may have posted this already, but to switch it up you may consider trying PB2 if you haven't already. You can probably find it with the peanut butter at your local store, or I get it on Amazon. I love putting this in smoothies! This is their website: https://www.bellplantation.com

I believe that eggs are the best protein and a perfect nutritious food.  People think egg yolks are bad for you but that is not true.  The yolks actually increase the good Cholesterol.  I eat 2-4 eggs every day.  I have chickens so my eggs are very fresh and they taste awesome!

I am trying to cut way back on meat after some health problems.  Any vegetarian suggestions for getting enough protein?  I can't eat beans and lentils twice daily!  And how much protein do we need anyway?

Thanks

Here's a few of my breakfast options that I rotate through:

1. Half cup of oatmeal with cashew milk and either a half scoop of protein powder (Gold Standard Whey - current flavor is chocolate peanut butter) or a scoop of PB2.

2. Half cup of low fat cottage cheese (I like the Daisy brand... much better taste and texture than other brands) with a handful of berries.

3. Half a full size bagel (or a whole bagel thin / mini bagel) with either cottage cheese or greek yogurt.

4. This week, however... I made up a batch of Scotch eggs with turkey sausage, so I've been having one of those in the mornings (and it probably sounds weird, but I put mustard and Frank's hot sauce on them... yum!).
