It depends on what your goal is and it varies depending on how much you eat each day.
If you want to lose around one pound per week then you would want to burn around 500 calories more than you eat each day. The tricky bit is knowing how many calories you have eaten. If you are prepared to log your food and drink into fitbit then it can do all the calculations for you. There is a good guide to how this all works here:
