measuring cup or weight?

1/2 cup of Quinoa = 80 calories but when I used the digital scale to get a more accurate reading the weight was 70 grams which translated to 249 calories!!!

Does that seem right?

Do you go by the measurement or the weight?

Hi @Carla123456 and welcome to the forums!  Are you measuring/weighing cooked or uncooked quinoa? That will make a difference. You can google “quinoa, nutritional info” to get the official word on calories, etc.

Hi!

 Thanks for replying.
it’s cooked quinoa. The nutritional info on the package gave info based on 1/2 cup (I scanned the barcode for the Fitbit app) but then I weighed it and it put the gram info (edited the measurement on the Fitbit app) and it gave me a MUCH higher number.

Hi! Are you taking into account the weight of the cup when using the scale?

half a cup is 64 grams, so there must have been something else in the cup or your scale may be off. When I measured and counted, I would use the label info to determine what calorie value is assigned for an amount. and then I would weigh to make sure I only had that amount. I wouldn't translate it to anything. So in your scenario a half cup is equal to 80 calories. I would measure out ounces equivalent to the half cup on my scale and log the 80 calories. That would be 2.25 ounces.
