measuring portions

ANSWERED

When logging food, I know some items like liquid are in cups/oz but some items are shown in grams which I'm guessing is weight. How about items like a powder substance that says 4 oz is a serving...is this 4 oz in weight or 4 oz as the equivalent of 1/4 cup?

When I look at the nutrition information on food labels, it usually says a serving is X ounces (X grams).  My scale will let me choose between ounces, grams, fluid ounces, or milliliters.  I do "weigh" my nightly glass of wine in milliliters, just because it's a little more precise that fluid ounces.  I also weigh things like protein powder in grams - again, because I feel like it's a little more precise.

I prefer to measure by weight because a 1/4 cup measuring cup can vary depending on how tightly I pack the ingredients 🙂

It works for me right now...

8 oz is a cup.   So 1/4 cup would be 2 oz.  Ounce is a weight based  fluid based.

Thanks Carol. I just ordered a food scale from Amazon so hopefully that will help instead of just using measuring cups.
