An app is needed to use this device

My inspire 3 no longer sends me notifications for anything from my android phone, I need troubleshooting to get it fixed. When I try to connect via Bluetooth, I get the error message "an app is needed to use this device" even though the Fitbit app is open, and it is syncing as my tracking is synced between app and device.

What I have tried:

  • Logging out of app
  • Force close app
  • Clear data on app
  • Delete app and reinstall
  • Turn off Bluetooth
  • Restart phone
  • Restart inspire 3
  • Verify DND is not on either device
  • Send test call notification to device
  • Delete device from app and readd
  • Turning notifications withint Fitbit app on and off
  • Made sure app/device/phone software is up to date
  • Unpaid inspire from phone and reconnect 

It's been happening ever since the calorie tracking issue where it was showing predicted amounts for future days was fixed. I had that issue and the same day I noticed it was fixed I was no longer getting notifications so wonder if it's related. Not sure what else to do but I really having notifications on my wrist and would like to have them back.

This usually works for me when I have sync issues:

  • Uninstall the app
  • Unpair the Inspire 3 BT from the phone
  • Restart the phone
  • Restart the Inspire 3
  • Verify that the Inspire 3 shows up as an available BT device on the phone.  If this step fails, then a Factory Reset of the device will be required
  • Reinstall the app
  • Complete the Inspire 3 setup process, but do not add your phone as a Device to the App

Regarding this observation in your post,

This is normal operation, because the Fitbit device can't be BT paired directly with the phone using the phone's BT connection tool.  BT pairing of the device with the phone can only be done using the app, so that error message will appear when direct BT pairing is attempted.
