Please can someone help explain how this works. The "sport" workout below actually lasted from 10:55 to 11:30 but it only shows up as a 23 min workout. I am sure that my heart rate was in the cardio zone for more than 23 mins.

Hi there, @nms1. Nice to see you again on the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about your inquiry regarding SmartTrack on Inspire 3. I understand where your concern is coming from.
As a first approach, I suggest restarting your Fitbit device by following these steps. Once this has been performed, please test your Inspire 3 and see if the issue persists.
If it does, as you may know, most Fitbit devices automatically recognize and record high-movement activities through the SmartTrack feature. To start, the default duration settings of your Fitbit device is 15 minutes long. However, you can change the amount of time needed to record the activity. To do so, please follow the next steps:
You can learn more about the SmartTrack feature in this link How do I track my activity with my Fitbit device?
Keep in mind that you can also use the Exercise app to start and stop a workout. For more information, see How do I track my workouts with my Fitbit device?
When tracking exercises with SmartTrack is not possible to edit the duration of your workout. What you can do is manually log the same activity for the remaining time in the Fitbit app so you can get credit for your efforts. Please see this help article where you'll find detailed instructions to log your exercise.
Hope that helps.
