Child cannot login in with google account under family link supervision.

My daughter wanted a Fitbit for her 16th birthday. I bought her one, but she cannot login to the Fitbit app with a google account under Family Link supervision. Similar thread here "Cannot setup Fitbit device for child under Google parental supervision".

Support told me this: "Regarding setting up a 16 year old's account, it can't be under parental controls or supervision anymore. Ages under 13 year olds are the ones that can be supervised. The account and the device can only be set up just like how it's done on normal accounts."

So in summary, remove Family Link and everything will be fine.

I may be being an over-protective parent, but I'd rather retain Family Link controls a little longer rather than trust 14+ year old children to make sensible online safety decisions.

I was told my "feedback will be noted here to inform our team."

So that is it? Google/Fitbit believe that parents should not monitor their child's activities online over 13 years old. If parents do wish to parent a little longer... they cannot use a Fitbit to improve the child's wellbeing.  There is no middle ground where parents might still parent AND allow their children to use a Fitbit at the same time. #Flabergasted.

Hi @whewalk  as long as you have access to your daughter's email account and Fitbit account, you can still monitor it. You can set the privacy to where no one can make contact. If your daughter has other friends or family with a Fitbit, it would be up to her to add them as a friend.

Thanks for your suggestion @Odyssey13 ... My issue is not really related to monitoring her on Fitbit.

It is more that to allow here to login to Fitbit with her google account, I can no longer monitor anything else that she does on her phone via Family Link.

@whewalk   My children are in their 30s, but I share your concerns.  I don't know if Fitbit/Google thought this through.  The most compelling post I read came from a parent whose young adult daughter has special needs.  Just like you, they couldn't set up an 'adult' Fitbit model.  The best way to give feedback to Fitbit is through the Product Feedback forum.
