Do I need to keep my phone app open?

I just got my very first Inspire 3 last Friday and did the update on Saturday, ever since then I’ve noticed unless my Fitbit app is open on my phone, it will show a disconnected phone symbol on the watches screen. I tried disconnecting from bluetooth and pairing again twice and nothing. Is this a thing? It’s draining my phone battery.

That is a 'status indicator' which will go away after 3 seconds. If you don't want status indicators, you can turn them off in Settings on your Inspire 3, but it can serve a purpose.
Though you do not not need to keep your phone fitbit app open all the time, I think most people do. With it running the background on your phone, it's drain on phone's battery not significant.  And it lets your fitbit synch, lets you get notices on Inspire 3 of text messages, etc. Plus you won't have to bother logging in every time you want to look at your data.
With that, the status indicator tells you that your phone is out of bluetooth range (about 30 ft). That cold be a good reminder that you are about to leave house without your phone.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
