Can you swim, or do water aerobics with an inspire 3, it says it is water resistant to 50mtrs and that 'you can dance in the rain'. However, I expect being immersed in a swimming pool is a bit more saturating than dancing in the rain.

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @Anne456!
Yes, you can swim and do water aerobics with your Inspire 3 and it even is meant to track your swimming exercises. But you should keep some things in mind to keep your device in perfect condition. Please have a look here for that:
Can I swim or shower with my Fitbit device?

I was intrigued by @Talahthas post about being able to track swimming exercises and indeed the link here states that Inspire 3 can not only track the time (like the flagship Sense 2) but also distance and pace. Is it true? Can anybody confirm?
Note: the same is for Inspire 2 but i had the device and it only shows duration when swimming so my doubt is legit.

@Dopovo since people have been asking for this feature here (I mean Inspire forums) the table is probably wrong (wouldn't be the first time, would it). There is even more bizzare response here given by moderator stating that no Fitbit model shows real-time stats duing swimming. At this moment Sense is the only device being still sold that support real-time stats. However, all the devices track pace and lengths but only as a summary in the mobile app after swimming. Anyway, tracking swimming with Fitbit is like eating soup with fork - kind of possible but there are better tools for it.
