Inspire 3 and Fitbit app are not showing the same amount of steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I took a walk today and noticed my steps going up way too fast on the app, like from 2,500 to 8,000 to over 14,000 within minutes. My watch is showing the correct number of steps while the app is showing 14K+. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I reset my watch. I've synced multiple times. And I ran the update. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there anything I can do to get my watch and app correctly synced?

Similar issue. For the last few days I've noticed that the app shows more steps than my watch. Tonight it is 400 steps more, last night was 1000 steps more. I've restarted the watch. Restarted Bluetooth. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app. What the heck?

Hi there, @MegS @Bashzilla. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and for the troubleshooting steps you've tried. I'm sorry to hear that your Fitbit devices and Fitbit app are not showing the same amount of steps. I understand where your concern is coming from, I will do my best to help you with this!

If you're seeing a step count difference between your Fitbit device and Fitbit app (being the Fitbit app with a higher step count), the first thing that came into my mind is MobileTrack. Are you using MobileTrack along with your Fitbit device? If you're, please note low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home. For more information, see How do I use Fitbit MobileTrack?

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

If the above describes your situation, you can remove MobileTrack by tapping on the phone's icon and then select "Remove From Account".

If you want to negate the extra steps, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Mine is the same the last few days, quite frustrating. x

I called them, they said a fix in the works for this and other items, coming in 2 or 3 WEEKS.That socks if you ask me.

Having the same issue today not as big of a jump in steps but it's definitely not matching app to fitbit. It's driving me nuts! I've done all the same things nothings fixing it 😕

Mine has been the same for last week or so anything from 200 to over 1000 steps extra showing on the app. Very annoying tbh and clearly there is a big issue that Google fitbit need to fix. Never had this issue before when wasn't Google or with previous device.

I have been having the same issue. One place I looked suggested disconnecting the phone but that just resulted in not being able to sync. Not only are the step counts not in sync between the Inspire 3 and the phone app, but the heart rate on the watch goes haywire unless I tighten it to a stranglehold on my wrist.

I am not impressed with Inspire 3 or the so called updates. I am doubting that any of the stats I am getting are accurate.

I would also like to stop it from automatically recording activity as this takes away my ability to see how many steps I am taking. All this automatic activity seems to drain the battery very fast. My old inspire would hold a charge for almost 2 weeks, this one seems to only manage about 5 days.

If you remove the phone from the account you have no way of checking stats since you took away the dashboard on the website.

Yes, I don't like the automatic activity either as it means I can't use it for seeing the time while I'm walking! Wish I hadn't done the last update as most of the issues seem to have started since that.

Disabling MobileTrack will resolve the issue of the step count on the device not matching the step count on the app, but there may be some confusion around how to actually do that.

Tap the Devices icon in the upper left-hand corner of the app Today screen and take a look at what shows up in the 'Devices' list.  If the Inspire 3 and the phone are both in the Devices list, then MobileTrack is enabled.  However, if the phone is in the 'Add Connections' list, then MobileTrack is not enabled.

Simply remove the phone from the Devices list to disable MobileTrack.

I followed these instructions and the app told me it couldn't sync with my inspire so I had to re-connect the phone in order to keep my info updated.

@SuRoY, it is not clear to me why that is not working for you, because I did that on both my wife's and my app and everything is working fine.

Thank you. Have done that and today my device and the app are in agreement with how many steps I've done.

I don't know but I ended up re starting the device, re starting the app and re starting the phone. Now it does seem to be cooperating so who knows what its issue was.

Glad to hear that restarting everything resolved the issue associated with disabling MobileTrack, @SuRoY.

This is definitely a very unstable FW/SW platform and I've worked at start-up companies that documented their FW/SW releases better than Google does, and there is no excuse for that.

"Performance improvements and bug fixes" is not an adequate release note, and not documenting things like MobileTrack and now having to explicitly enable GPS for exercises with the new FW, leaving customers floundering to figure out what is going on, is simply inexcusable.

Thank you for your interest and help, yes, it is very frustrating. I hope they can get their act together as it is obviously something that many people are encountering.

I just came across this and I’m having the EXACT same issue. It’s honestly really pissing me off because this issue never happened with my charge 3 or 4, but the inspire 3 has been glitchy since I got it, then since this last update it got even worse and this step issue started! I’ve been a Fitbit user since they started up and I’ve backed them religiously but at this point I don’t know if I can keep going anymore since Google bought them out 😞 Everything sucks now.

I've fixed the step issue by following the step suggested above. However yes my Inspire 3 is very glitchy too. Often get screen fade where basically you can't see what's on the screen. And charging is sometimes erratic... going slowly upto 85% then suddenly jumping to 100%... course soon as you remove from charger it then drops back down within minutes.
I'm also considering alternative trackers.

I have the same issue of higher step counts in the Android app than on Inspire 3 ever since Fitbit app 4.x.x releases. It did Not happen with rel. 3.81. I am using no other intermediary apps. The S.E.'s at Fitbit have broken the app.

I also can no longer correct the Sleep Timeline that this rel. series 4.x.x is Inaccurately splitting (that I could fix when it happened in the past 14 yrs of using Fitbit devices/apps). I need a way to do that again or the sleep data is useless.
