Why is the charging cord so ridiculously short??? It really needs to be longer!

If they were long, people would complain why aren't they shorter.  You can buy long third-party ones on Amazon quite inexpensive. 

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
