I have recently started my journey to get healthier and am doing exercise on my treadmill. I record this as a walk on my Fitbit as I have been walking the majority of the time with the occasional jog for 2 mins at a time.
There is a huge difference in the mileage logged on my treadmill vs my Fitbit. I have tried the troubleshooting steps and the app does not like when I change things. I have tried to just edit the walk mileage to reflect what the treadmill said but when I do this it resets back to the mileage Fitbit said, I have tried multiple times to do this across last weeks walks and it just resets back to what Fitbit said I walked in miles.
I am tempted at this point to just send it back as all I’ve had is issues - can these be fixed or does it go back?

I am guessing that you holding a handrail at least part of the time with your fitbit wrist. That prevents fitbit from detecting steps and therefore distance. Fitbit cannot direcily detect steps, but only from the swinging of your arm as when walking. But you are still getting heart rate and therefore calories burned detected.
You have a few options: Try holding only your non-fitbit wrist; put your fitbit in a pocket will probably get your step count, and therefore distance, correct, but you will lose heart rate recording, and therefore calories burned and zone minutes.
This is a common problem, also often faced pushing a baby carriage or shopping cart.

You can use the treadmill exercise instead of the walking exercise. I believe that Fitbit senses the impact of your foot to count steps (so hitting your wrist would count). Holding onto the treadmill bar would likely decrease the impact. I don't know what is different about the treadmill exercise, but I think it might make it more sensitive.

I do not use the hand rail - treadmill doesn’t have one

My treadmill does not have a handrail. I swing my arms slightly OTT to ensure it counts my steps but the mileage is still incorrect.
