I’ve had my Fitbit for a little over a month. I thought it was working great until I mentioned to some friends (that also have a fitbit) how many steps I take in a day. Mine shows considerably less than others. So I started counting steps and looking at my Fitbit and realized that it doesn't change that number to match what I counted. Is there some setting I should be looking at for this? Thank you 😎

It helps to give some numbers to that. We don't know if you counted 500 steps and Fitbit only registered 498 or how much think it is off by. Remember it can never be exactly precise. Something on your wrist can not really know what your legs re doing. It can only infer steps from your wrist movements, such as in the normal swinging of your arms as when walking. Sometimes you will get extra steps registered when doing arm movements that are not steps, and sometimes it will register steps when your arms are held still, such as pushing a shopping cart or holding hand rails on a treadmill. If you try to check them over short periods of time, you are bound to find errors, but for most people, they pretty much average out over the course of a full day. And remember, steps are only steps; calories burned and Zones minutes are based on heart rate, not on steps.
If you still want to test your step count, the true way to do it is go somewhere you can walk in a nearly straight line, probably outside, for at least 100 steps, more is better. Come to complete rest before; check step count, then count steps as you walk at least 100 steps, letting arms swing naturally not looking at phone or watch, then come to stop, give it a few seconds to catch up, then check step fitbit count and see how close it comes to what you counted.

Hi…. I am so sorry I forgot to answer you!!
I loosened the strap on my Fitbit and it seems to be more accurate now. I’m also going to try your suggestion too.
Thank you very much for answering my question. I hope you have a great weekend! 😎
