Inspire 3 is tracking steps even when I'm not moving

My inspire 3 logged over 8000 steps while I wasn't wearing it. My phone is not paired so I know it wasn't mobile track. I restarted and the steps are still showing.

What was it on?  Could it have been a surface that was subject to vibrations?

Hi, @lpkitty, welcome, If you remove your Inspire 3 (or any other Fitbit device) and lay it face up on a reflective surface it may detect the flashing LED and produce "Ghost" data, sometimes steps or HR. Try lying it face down (& on a non-reflective vibration-free surface) You can Add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities in the app on your phone & then sync to change the data on your device.

I hope this helps, please post here again & let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Hi @lpkitty. Welcome back to the forums. Good to see you participating in the community @TheNeilHaley

@lpkitty, thank you for providing the inquiry regarding your Inspire 3.

Keep in mind the algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement, such as working or cooking, you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats.

The restart doesn't delete your records but it can help to prevent the inconvenience from happening again. Before considering other options, and if you still consider the steps are not accurate, please make sure that you've tried the restart procedure again as described in this article, then check if you continue to experience the same behavior. In the meantime, you can find more useful information about the accuracy of Fitbit devices and how to adjust your stride length and dominant hand settings here.

Thanks for your help @Gr4ndp4
