Inspire 3 is tracking too many steps and miles

My Garmin of many years finally died so I went to the Inspire 3.   I get far too many steps and miles for my regular walk.   Is there’s way to adjust the Inspire 3?

@Ebclark , A warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your message.

Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running.

When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps.

For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats.

Well the algorithm doesn’t work for me…..this am I walked about 5 miles (was 12k+ on my Garmin ) played a little pickleball, walked a bit for errands and yard work. My goal is 20k a day (between 8-10 miles with Garmin). My Fitbit has already credited me with 21893 steps and 9.17 miles and I have a dog walk to go. I did the restart on the Fitbit but did nothing. As far as I’m concerned this watch is an expensive piece of junk

Hi, @Ebclark, welcome, I'm presently using an Inspire 3 and a Garmin Venue 2+ together. Allowing for the fact that the Inspire 3 credits me with 8,000 steps for swimming 3,000 metres but the Garmin does not both more or less agree on the steps count. You may find this article of interest How to make your fitness tracker count steps more accurately - The Verge All wearables are subject to variations of one kind or another.

Specifically talking about your Fitbit and @JuanFitbit advice may I suggest you review your settings in the app on your phone? From your "Today" screen touch your icon in the top left corner (If you now have the new app touch the settings icon in the top right corner) >Activity & wellness>exercise>stride length> Now work out your normal walking stride length (and running if you run) - I measured out some 25 yards & walked it a number of times to determine my average stride length. Turn off the "Set Automatically" and touch "Walking Stride Length" to enter your result. Return to the "Today" screen & slide your finger down and release to sync.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
