Inspire 3 tracking swimming as rowing

ANSWERED

Has your Fitbit 3 tracked swimming as rowing?  I recently experienced this three times, and when I spoke to the help desk, the advice was to perform a factory reset on the device.  The help desk employee I spoke with said that if not enough people complain about this problem, they will not investigate the root cause.  If you have experienced this problem, please notify the help desk so we can encourage them to resolve the issue.  It appears to occur each time Fitbit performs a software update.

@lbyoung1   I'm sorry that you got those answers from Support.  I can help you.  A recent firmware update added a feature that will auto-start the Exercise app for six exercises: walk, run, bike, elliptical, rowing, and spinning.  This is different from the auto-tracked activities, like swimming, that you control in the app.  The accelerometer patterns from swimming are similar to those from rowing.  Here's how to make it stop:

  • Swipe left/right on your Inspire 3 screen and open the Exercise app
  • Swipe up to find the rowing shortcut and tap on it
  • Swipe up on the tiny "^" that will take you to the specific settings like set a goal
  • Look for Auto-start and toggle it off

Like I wrote, this feature is in six shortcuts.  Other daily activities can activate other shortcuts.  When this feature got added to my Sense 2, the first thing i did was toggle them all off.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just turned off rowing and I will see when I swim next time, if my Fitbit tracks my swimming properly.

I’ve had the same issue. Even after I deleted the rowing machine and manually add swimming it won’t save the activity. I really hate this update!

@172MK   Please follow the steps is my other post, so your Inspire 3 will stop tracking your swimming as rowing.  I'm sorry, but I can't help with the manually logging issue.
