My friend and I walk a mile at a similar pace. I get about zone 34 minutes snd she gets 2. How come?

There may be some difference due to your age and level of fitness but it shouldn't be that extreme. Have you compared your heart rate zones on the app to see if they are at similar levels?
It is also highly likely that this is due to the latest software upgrade as a lot of us are seeing random readings.

@520MonroeBay I agree with @nms1's comments about age and fitness level. Fitbit uses your age to calculate your maximum heart rate. It also uses your resting heart rate to calculate your active zone minute zones. Comparing details will help. You only need a few beats per minute difference for your zones to be different.
To clarify the comment about the firmware update, Fitbit/Google changed the heart rate algorithm. It is supposed to be more accurate during exercise.

@nms1 @LZeeW , Thank you for your help.
@520MonroeBay , Nice to see you around.
Thank you for your message.
Just jumped in, to add more info to nms1 and LZeeW 's. The active zone minutes not only depend on the resting heart rate, but also on how long any of you were on each heart rate zone.
Meaning if you were longer in a vigorous or peak zone as your friend. You might also get more active zone minutes.
Keep in mind the following table:
Heart-Rate Zone | Active Zone Minutes
|
---|---|
1 minute in the moderate zone | 1 Active Zone Minute |
1 minute in the vigorous or peak zone | 2 Active Zone Minutes* |
