Not able to turn on water lock whilst tracking an activity

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I do some aqua fit and aqua pilates classes, so tracking as swimming is inaccurate but if I track as workout I can't put the water lock on and sometimes the workout is ended halfway through, I'm assuming due to the water hitting the screen.

Is there a solution to this?

When you say that tracking as swimming is inaccurate, I guess you mean that it won’t count laps? I think it still will register that you are moving and give you activity stats similar as to what you would get with a workout. Have you tried that? As I understand it, the main thing that water lock does is stop screen input, which, as you surmise, is probably why the workout randomly cuts off when you do it in the pool.

It doesn't register heart rate or cardio/fat burn zones with swimming, it also seems to measure the distance traveled as evidence of the effort I've exerted, when that's not the point of the classes I do which are focused on cardio and weights, a bit like a HIIT class in the water

I'll check with some of my buddies and see if we can come up with any ideas.

Hi, @MichelleFS , (, @Baltoscott  - thanks for your note on this question) welcome, you will see in How do I track swims with my Fitbit device? tells us that HR is disabled during "Swim" workouts. This is a grey area, if you instigate your exercise via exercise>swim>start arrow then your device is water-locked & HR disabled. If, on the other hand, you rely on the auto-recognize function after engaging the water-lock HR continues to be recorded (most times) while you swim, though in my experience it's not reliable.

As HR is disabled you will not see cardio or fat burn zones because the essential data stream (HR) is absent (though many have noted AZM is recorded)

I would suggest that you engage the water lock and then allow your Inspire 3 to auto-recognize your activity. If this does not produce a satisfactory result engage the water lock after selecting weights or workout. Waterlock prevents the water on the touchscreen from creating unwanted changes and prevents unnecessary battery drain.

I hope this helps but if you are still stuck please post here again.

Cheers

Hi the auto recognition doesn't work properly and if I select workout (which is what I'm doing currently) it tracks the activity accurately but there is no way of activating the water lock after I have started tracking the workout, so it frequently gets turned off or outsiders midway through a class. Unless there is something I've missed and there is a way to turn on the water lock after I've selected track workout

Hi, @MichelleFS , thanks for the feedback. May I suggest you try the following? First, check your auto-recognize settings. From the today screen in your Fitbit app on your phone touch your icon in the top left corner>activity & wellness>exercise>sport>ensure the slider is in the on position and reduce the default "sports longer than" 15 minutes to something shorter bearing in mind your class activities. Before starting your class engage waterlock, after your class sync your Fitbit app to examine the results. If this does not produce satisfactory results try using Aerobic workout.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Hi MichelleFS,

I thought it was just me! I do paddle sports and so have been trying to log my workouts using the workout and have that same issue...I cannot then waterlock my device! I've taken to tracking in another app on my phone (which of course doesn't give HR info) and then I'm entering the data manually into FitBit but somethings are definitey inaccurate...like calories burned...doing it that way. 😕  I need a solution to this as well.
