Stair recording not working

my recently purchased Fitbit 3 is not registering stairs activity. 
I have just, purposefully walked up and down 2 flights of stairs and nothing registered. 
can anyone help me please?

@Kangagrant  Can you clarify which device you have? There is no device called a "Fitbit 3". Could it be Charge 3, Inspire 3, or Versa 3? You can check that in the Fitbit app.

@Kangagrant   The Inspire 3 is the only current model.  It doesn't have an altimeter, the small piece of hardware that counts floors.  The other models are discontinued.
