Started getting Googlemail email notifications when I don't want them and notifications switched off

I'm really worried about this. My Googlemail email account is not linked to my Fibit account. My Fitbit email is actually a BT internet email, not Googlemail. My settings are 'off' for all email notifications. Yet for the past two weeks my Inspire 3 has started buzzing notifications from my Google email account every time there's a new email. I can find no way to switch it off. If this is anything to do with Google taking over Fitbit then I'm querying if this is a security breach. Has Google linked my Google email account to my Fitbit without my permission? Is this happening to anyone else?

Hi, @SueB500, A further check you should make, in the Fitbit app on your phone "Today" screen, touch the icon in the top left corner>Inspire 3 tile>notifications>app notifications>make sure "Gmail" is not checked.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi, @SueB500, welcome to the community, First, may I draw your attention to this article How do I get notifications from my phone on my Fitbit device? which provides background information on the process.

May I suggest you check your settings in the Fitbit app on your phone? From the "Today" screen touch your icon in the top left corner>Inspire 3 tile>notifications>email>If you want it "off" make sure the slider is to the left & greyed out (off) you will be offered a primary email app from your phone. If it's the Gmail app remember you may have linked the app to your other accounts as I have in which case any email regardless of the account will ping your device notifications.

I hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Thanks for responding,  but I've already checked all this. Email notifications are greyed out. The only email linked to my Fitbit account is the non-Google one. I haven't changed any settings, but without any reason I can see I am suddenly getting G-mail notifications. That's why I am really puzzled and  quite a bit unnerved. Sent from my Galaxy

Hi. Thank you. I did as you suggested and found that Gmail was switched on. In fact it was the ONLY email provider mentioned.  I have now switched it off. As I never proactively switched it on on the first place, I didn't even know the option was there, then it must be a default setting. But when did that happen and how? I've only started having Gmail notifications over the past couple of weeks. Yet I've had this particular Inspire device for about 15 months and one Fitbit or another for about four or five years. Anyway problem now solved and those annoying buzz alerts should end.Sent from my Galaxy

Hi, @SueB500, I'm pleased you've been able to sort out your problem. These settings sometimes get "disturbed" when there is an app SW update and are always worth checking if you note new unusual behaviour. If you consider that my post merits "Choose as best Answer" you are able to mark it so.

Cheers
