'disable step counting during non-walking events'-setting?

Hi google/fitbit,

Where can I toggle off the registration of steps during non-walking exercises? Such as cycling, which I do 2x p/d for 7km to/from work 5 days a week.

Its f-ing up my step count massively and now I don't have a clue how many steps I actually take each day.

Don't come with work arounds, I've read them all dating back from 2012. I want a button that asks 'do you want steps while cycling?' and then the slider for yes/no.

Thank you

Hi, @RPK91 if you track your bike rides using the “Outdoor Bike” exercise on the Fitbit exercise app on your Inspire 3 you will get a record of your biking activity and at the same time your steps will be suppressed.  This is not a “work around” ; this is how it is designed.

If you prefer not to do that, then unfortunately you will have to follow a workaround - such as creating a manual log, or deleting these steps.  The help article explaining how to delete steps is here .  If you have been following/ using Fitbit since 2012 then you will be aware that previously the only way to delete steps was to log a driving activity - this is no longer true and you may be pleasantly surprised…

If you would like a dedicated button that asks the question you suggest then the best way of making your voice heard is to create a post in the Product Feedback forum.

I hope this helps.  Welcome to the Community Forums!

Hi @Julia_G,

Incredible fast and extensive response, kudos for that!

On to the contents, the app nor the inspire 3 discriminate between (indoor) bike and outdoor bike. It only returns 'Bike' when I look though all the possibilities. The only 'outdoor' activity it returns in 'outdoor workout'. Both the app and the software on the inspire are the latest versions. I'm an android user by the way, if that's where the caveat is, then that's my problem.

The majority of steps, according to the step counter, are taken in the hours that I'm on the bike for 35 to 40 minutes. Which is about 2000 steps, aka near 1,5km. I am definitely sure that the distance from my front door to the bike and from the bikeshed to my workplace doesn't even reach 300m.

The bike trip is 90% smooth asphalt, 5% rougher asphalt and 5% a type of brick road. Will that really get me 2k of steps in the counter??

*wanted to share a screenshot of my search with outdoor bike visible, but I get an error code*

Hi @RPK91 ! Welcome to the Fitbit Community !
Could you tell me if you go out to do your routine with your phone with you? It seems like you might have MobileTrack on.
MobileTrack uses the phone's sensors to count steps. This is for when you have left your Fitbit at home (e.g. while charging).
Please make sure MobileTrack is not activated.
In the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon (top left corner). There you will see the devices linked to your account.
If you see the Mobile Device Active(Smartphone) option, tap it and remove it from the account.

@Julia_G Thank you for all your support !

Hi @MarioSFitbit, thank you.

Yeah I have the phone on me when I go to work. Usually in my jackets pocket, sometime in my pants pockets. My phone is not added to fitbit device list, so seems unlikely thet MobileTrack is on. If for some reason fitbit/google activated it while the app still asks me 'Add phone' then it's a massive breach of privacy though.

Hi @RPK91 ! Thank you for your feedback ! I appreciate your communication. When you ride a bike on bumpy trails, your device may add some steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added when riding a bike isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. If your device has an Exercise app, make sure you choose the Bike exercise before starting your workout. If you use automatic tracking to detect your bike ride, make sure the Outdoor Bike exercise is set to be automatically recognized (as said by @Julia_G ). For more information, see How do I track my activity with my Fitbit device?
