how does the auto start/auto stop work

I have a question about the auto detect and auto stop feature for walking, specifically. If I go for a walk and my Inspire 3 detects that after, lets say, 4 minutes. Will it adjust the time to when I actually started? or does it start counting when it detects the walk. The same at the end, does it adjust to when it thinks you stopped or when the activity actually does stop?

Thanks!!

Hi, @Lezliej I think the auto detect doesn’t start for 10 minutes, but to answer your question, it does back count the time to the point it first detected the walk.  Similarly when it thinks you have stopped it will send a message and ask if you are done, but will set the end time to the point it thinks you stopped.  With that said, the stop time can be a little less accurate if you don’t remember to stop it yourself - that is, if you are like me and when you finish your walk you are still puttering around taking your coat off or putting away things you bought while out etc it may think this was still part of your walk.  It doesn’t know when you came indoors, it only knows when it stopped detecting consistent stepping.

I quite like this new feature and find it works pretty well for me and gets the timings fairly accurate.

@Julia_G Thank you for your help.

@Lezliej , A warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your message and feedback.

Just jumped in to add to Julia_G 's info.

There are 2 ways to auto detect your activities with the Inspire 3.

SmartTrack. This feature recognizes your movements and after the time you setup  (eg. 10 Min) it will start recording the activity in the background. This settings for them are on the Fitbit App.
More info can be found here: Which activities does my Fitbit device track automatically?
Can I change how my activities are tracked?

With the new update the Inspire 3 also has the ability to start the exercise app after recognizing a specific activity.
This feature will start the exercise app when recognizing these activities (Cycling, cross trainer, rowing, running, indoor cycling or walking.)
To turn this feature off, please do as follows.

Please change these settings on the Inspire 3 itself

  • Open the exercise app.
  • Tap (each one individually ) cycling, elliptical, rowing, running, indoor cycling, or walking.
  • Swipe up and deactivate Auto-Start.

The next time the device detects this type of training, the training app will not open automatically.
