Hi there, for some reason my fitbit inspre 3 tracker contains item menu “Run detect” always inactive:

So I can’t turn on this feature in order to have exercise app to be opened automatically when tracker starts to detect running. To be more precise - I'm talking about this settings menu:manual.png

Please help me to turn on this item somehow.

Thanks in advance!

@defo900   Run detect is a specific feature and it only works this way.  But you have two options to track your run without using your phone:

  • Keep the GPS off.  Use the Exercise app to start and stop your run.  This will give you a steps x stride length distance.  I track a lot of my activity this way.  My Fitbit has built in GPS -- it uses too much battery for the information I want.
  • Run is one of the auto recognized activities (Fitbit calls this SmartTrack).  All you need to do is run.  There are two downsides to using SmartTrack.  Sometimes your start and stop times will be off a little bit.  SmartTrack does not report distance in the exercise details.  I track a lot of my activity this way, too.  I know my routes and distances.

Hello @defo900 and welcome to the Community.  Please swipe down on your screen a little and make sure your Use GPS option is toggled to On.  That option will get greyed out when the toggle is Off.

On a side note, this Run Detect feature was introduced with the original Versa.  My Versa detected a run in about a minute.  Different devices have behaved differently, with some taking four or more minutes to detect my run.  When you look at your details at the end of your run, you'll see that you will get a steps x stride length distance until the GPS connects, then your GPS distance after that.  If you know you are going to run, then I recommend starting your run with the Exercise app, right from the start, so you have a full GPS track of your run.  Just a thought.

Hi LZeeW

Thank you for answer! Yes, now I see that in case gps is enabled the 'run detect' option is active. But I wonder is it possible to make 'run detect' active when gps option is off? I just want to use tracker without connection to phone.

Thanks
