1st update failing & phone stuck on updating screen

three times now I have had to restart my phone. the update bar gets to full on both the fitbit and the phone, the fitbit restarts but then the phone gets stuck on the updating screen and the fitbit just goes about life showing no sign of doing anything else.

30 minutes is the longest i have sat there watching nothing happening.

when I open the app the update is still there waiting for me.

would it be ok if I just ignore this update and wait for the next one as i am losing valuable steps?

so the phone had a progress bar on it - and the watch face seemed to be filling up with blue.  This took quite a long time, and at one point I went out of the room without my phone and got a red cross on my watch screen.  When I got them back within range, the watch screen was the same, but I think the phone had lost its progress bar (but I might be mis-remembering).  It looked about halfway I think.  Anyway, it eventually filled up the watch screen - "here we go", I thought - but the watch screen went back to unfilled and went through the process again.  Eventually the watch screen was green, and a few minutes later Bingo.  I reckon it took a good 45 minutes.

When I first setup the watch, the HR monitor wasn't working - no lights flashing on the back - so a tried a two button reset a la Surge, and it worked.  The same happened after this update, but I reset it twice.  Going to try a run now.

Mine just did an update - it took longer than 30 minutes, but it did complete

I don't know if this applies to you as well, as I never had to restart my phone, but this is what helped me after one failed firmware update attempt:

- Deleting my Ionic from the Fitbit App so that it will need to be set up again (you can sync your steps/calories, etc. to the app before you delete the device from it)

- Connecting the Ionic to the charger cable on my PC before I started the setup and firmware update

Good luck!

did the watch go back to normal while the phone sat on the updating bit without the bar filling after it had been filled once already?

The same happend to me. However, the update icon showed up next day in the Fitbit app on my Lumia 950XL. So I started it manually, it took app. 25 minutes. I do not see any changes after having installed the update, the watch is running smoothly as before.

My update took about 15-20 minutes, but I remember one of the warnings saying that I needed to keep my watch close to my phone, so the connection wouldn’t fail. Not sure what the update addressed, but my Ionic does seem a tad more responsive. Thanks Fitbit for coming out with a prompt update!!!!

my phone is on the updating tracker screen and my ionic screen just keeps saying to get started go to fitbit setup in multiple languages...it has been like this for 40 minutes...should the watch be showing that it is receiving the update?

That’s what happens to mine, Bluetooth turns off every time.

Did this ever resolve? I life in San Francisco and would literally jump off the Golden Gate Bridge to avoid dealing with this firmware update.

I have tried every step in the book to fix this and it still hangs up mid screen and never never never never updates 😞

I understand. You need to factory reset. You won’t lose your data.

i had same issue and tried to delete and reinstall several times. I contacted fitbit "online chat" and the agent walked me through all the steps to get my iconic back up and running.   I strongly recommended connecting them...I would have never figured it out on my own....

I swear, this update. I've given up so many times thinking who cares. This is now my sixth try and it's been "installing" according to the progress bar on my phone for over an hour now. Did you ever get your update sorted? Anyone is free to reply. I'm furious. Cannot believe I bought another Fitbit despite previous problems with other models. I must be insane.

Mine finally worked. I strongly recommend you call their support line. The person I spoke was a huge help and stayed o. With fior over 30 mins. Once it started loading properly it took about 25 mins. I am pretty technically savvy and i would have never figured it out without his help. We have 2 other iconics in our family and the other two had no issue.

I was mad too. I did a factory reset and that worked. I also didn’t lose any of my data.
