Activities disappear from Ionic

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

About 70% of the time, my Ionic just stops recording my activities and they are totally discarded.  When I go biking, at some random time, could be 10 minutes or 1 hour into the ride, I check my watch and the activity has gone. (just normal watch mode).  There is no record of it in the watch or app.

So this is a fitness tracker that discards most of the activities !  I've tried rebooting, changing watch faces (in case a bad face is causing issues) but nothing fixes it

Is anyone else seeing this?

No - mine works fine. Have yiu tried restarting your Ionic several times? Give that a go and let us know if that fixes it.

Sadly restarts make no difference. This started happening 3 weeks ago. It
didn't do it for the 6 months prior to that.
So I assume must be related to some firmware update? Nothing else hanged
apart from a clock face but going back to an earlier face didn't resolve
the issue.

Hey there @PaulHaines, thanks for stopping by! Also, thanks for taking the time to restart your Ionic as my friend @NellyG suggested. Nice way to go!

While reading your post I was wondering if you tracked your activities directly from your Ionic or you let your SmartTrack to do it?

Note that when you manually start an activity from your Ionic, these activities override any SmartTrack activities during the same time period. In this instance I'd recommend making sure that any manually started activity via the exercise app on the Ionic is completed before starting a new activity using SmartTrack.

If the above is not the case, I'd recommend unpairing your Ionic from your phone's Bluetooth settings.

In order to solve this, please go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and remove the tracker. In the list of Bluetooth devices you'll see the Ionic and next to it, this symbol "!". Hit the symbol and it will take you to the next step, once you're there select the option that says "Forget this device".

Once you've made sure about that, go back to the Fitbit app, go to the "Account" option in the upper right corner and select "Set up a Device". This should start the setup process for your device. Smiley Very Happy

Give this a shot and let us know the outcome!

Hi i also have this very annoying problem where in bike mode it just randomly stops and reverts back to the clock screen. if only you could hear my reaction after a solid work out and on the home run to notice all the recorded data is lost, never to be seen again.. i'm surprised i've not been arrested, as i turn the air blue with rage... slating Fitbit.

I have lost three huge workouts on my bike now due to this malfunction. I have tried all sorts or fixes re booting re pairing - having nothing else on my which could interfere with he device and ive only had the device a few months.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reassure me why i should not contact the seller of my watch and ask for a refund.

I brought this device to enable me to complete these workouts and look back on the data saved. I even swayed to Fitbit Iconic over the latest Garmin ... I am seriously having second thoughts now.

Hi @BettySwollocks.  Yes - EXACTLY the same symptoms.  Bike mode, just randomly discards the activity tracking and back to clock screen.

I did 2 activities today on my bike - one for about 2 hours, was recorded normally.  Then another for 1 hour, but after just 30 mins it stopped tracking and discarded the activity.

This is ridiculous - a fitness tracker that discards your fitness activities.

Restarting the device, re-pairing the device do not solve the problem.   Quite simply, it is broken software on the device.

Hi @MarreFitbit.

No I am not using SmartTrack, in fact I didn't even know it existed.  I am tracking natively on the device.

Forgetting the device and re-paring as a new device does NOT solve the problem.  I have tried this many times and doesn't help.

You can see from other posters that they have the same issue - in Bike mode, just randomly dropping the activity tracking and back to the clock face.  It is incredibly frustrating that a fitness tracker doesn't reliably do its main function.   I did 2 activities today, one was recorded successfully, the second dropped after 20 mins.  Yesterday during a 3 hour ride I found it had stopped tracking after just 15 mins, and there is nothing you can do about it. This issue started happening about 3-4 weeks ago, never saw it before then.

Enough was enough, rang and spoke to fitbit re problems, they informed me to contact seller (amazon) which i did and refund on the way 🙂 so a Garmin vivoactive 3 Music on its way to replace the Iconic, slightly saddened as i did enjoy most of its features BUT.. the whole concept of tracking a HARD long work, hitting PB's to find this data just vanishes as quick as the sweat you produced achieving these just isn't good enough FITBIT..

Understand your frustration.  But I live in SE Asia, and warranties are not so generous as in UK or USA. Also, I've had this device 6 months and this issue has appeared in the past month.   Kinda screwed unless Fitbit identifies the problem and issues firmware update asap.

I waited 4 months for them to fix the issue where notifications don't work.  Now, this issue is far worse. A tracker that discards your activities.

@MarreFitbit  Is there any update on this issue?  It seems there are many threads and hundreds of postings on the same problem, namely that it crashes during activity, exits the exercise app unexpectedly.

Seems the problem has been raised with Fitbit since the device came out, and as it has not been solved, many people have returned their Ionics and switched to Garmins.

The workarounds of turning notifications off or lap counters or not having your phone connected simply do not work.  I have none of those settings in place, and my activities are constantly discarded by this flawed product.

As it is so fundamental to what this device was designed to do - can the moderators provide us feedback on what steps are being taken to fix it.
