Are there alternate ways to update the tracker software? I cannot get the ionic to connect via wifi and when I do it through my phone it wants to update via bluetooth which takes close to an hour or more and involves me trying to keep the ionic screen active or it goes black and disconnects.

The only way to update is via WiFi and Bluetooth. WiFi is the preferred option as it should complete much faster.
It might be worth looking at this help article and trying to figure out why it's not connecting to your WiFi network. The most common problem is trying to connect to a 5Ghz network (Ionic doesn't support this), although most routers will also allow you to simultaneously broadcast a 2.4Ghz network which the Ionic does support.
