I have had various fit bits for the past three years and experienced no problems. I run and am thinking of buying the ionic as it has built in gps. I have a new Samsung Galaxy A5 and have no probs with my charge 2. All the reviews I am reading is not making me want to rush out and spend £240 on a new fit bit. Am I wasting my money?

Issues for me, won’t sink with app, steps, heart rate and calories burned miles out and becomes unresponsive after a few days until I factory reset and go through the whole scenario again.

for the same price, i purchased a Garmin Vivoactive 3.
doesn't allow music storage, but not a real pity

Don't waste your money! It's rubbish. First time Fitbit user and I wish I had gone with the Garmin watch now.

I Had the flex then upgraded to the surge (which I loved) now have the ionic - as I have been learning to swim and wanted this functionality.
In my opinion I much prefer the fitbit to the Apple watch (from a fitness tracking perspective) but can't speak for other brands. There's a few disappointing features with the ionic that could be improved, such as the very limited options for UK bank users For the watch payment, and it's not easy to transfer music to - although it now uses deezer which is a positive for me. If you just want something to track your steps and activity stick with what you have but if you'll use it for more than just that I've had no connectivity issues or anything. It still struggles to pick up my HR in gym training but my old ones were the same

Best smartwatch I ever owned (and I had Pebble, Pebble Time, LG G Watch, LG G watch R and I still hve Polar m600).
So happy that at my old age of 48 years old I started to learn programming and released my first clockface in the Gallery

I have my ionic since about a month and couldn‘t be happier.
Sure there are some points that should be improved (favorites for clock-faces, make use of O2 sensor, more compatible credit cards), but that’s all stuff i knew beforehand.
The watch itself is hardware and software wise rock-solid and hasn‘t failed me once.
When asking such a question in a forum, you always have to remember that the happy users don‘t share the same motivation to be in such a forum, they‘re outside and enjoy the product.
As far as i‘ve read in this forum, it heavily depends on the smartphone. If you‘ve got one that has a buggy Bluetooth LE implementation you should expect some bumps. So in your case: look for users with the same phone and ask them if they‘re satisfied.
If your hardware constellation works, you won‘t find a smartwatch which gives you more bang for the buck.
And if you buy online, and experience some heavy troubles, getting it returned shouldn‘t be a problem.
Kind regards
Dominik

I've had my Ionic since November. I upgraded from the blaze because I wanted the waterproof watch. I love it! I've had a few issues with it (but they've been fixed with patches to the fitbit app). I also had a few issues with the blaze... with that said, I love it and have no plans to get rid of it. I'm sad for the people that are having the calibration issues/syncing issues/ or any other major issues, as I have not had those problems.
ETA: I was/am looking for a fitness watch with smart watch features. The fitness aspect is what's most important to me. I do use the notification feature, but have not loaded music on it. So I guess if a person is looking for more smart watch features then they might not be overly happy with this one.

The charge 2 is half the price and a much better device than the Ionic. Total waste of $300
