No! And none is expected.

@SunsetRunner
why not? only because of the google acquisition?

Google has nothing to do with it.

Also the Ionic hasn't been the success that Fitbit hoped it would be

@SunsetRunner
do you have inside information?
@SunsetRunner
but you just posted a strong argument for a ionic 2. if the ionic was not the hoped success. may be fitbit learned from versa release and delivers a great ionic successor.

I used to be a Garman user… And loved that the ionic was much smaller but give me a GPS. As long as Fitbit comes out with a watch that has GPS and some smart watch features, I’m going to buy it. I think one of the problems is that the versa just looks nicer like a smart watch, and can be worn in a professional setting. I certainly hope that Fitbit and or a Google makes some kind of announcement. I’m still holding out hope for the ionIc 2 that’s why I didn’t get an Apple Watch… That and the battery life

I've had my ionic for a couple of years and it's starting to die. I've checked out Garmin, but they're a bit too bulky for me, and the Samung Active 2 feels comfortable, but it's battery life is crap. I hope Fitbit update the Ionic, but if they don't plan to, it would be nice to know (if you're listening Fitbit).

I have been a customer of yours for a long time. I average over 15,00 steps per day and currently have a Surge that has served me very well for many years but it is getting a little tired and the screen is not interactive anymore. This was the third item I had purchased from your excellent range of fitness instruments. I am looking forward to buying the Iconic 2 if it is to be released, if not I will need to obtain the current version as it frustrates me not being able to obtain the information that I need. Congratulations on your products, keep up the research and stay ahead of the pack.

I also like Fitbit. But I would not suggest an Ionic. I also came from the Surge after the screen got unresponsive. Two weeks ago it was "Game over" for my 6th Ionic in 2 years (lost, dead on arrival or died of water damage). All was coverd by guarranty but it is very frustrating for me as customer. I started the Fitbit game Treasure Track for 4 times (no way to backup data). Now I ordered a Versa Special Edition. I have to relinquish on GPS but I hope the Versa lasts longer and has better built quality. In my opinion the Ionic has a faulty design or the quality of some parts are subpar.

@tonupkid only Fitbit corporate knows what's going on. You can read the Fitbit blog and see what's happening. No one on the forums knows what the company is doing, unless and until they choose to share that information.

The ionic has GPS, but it is NOT used to determine the running distance. I tested this by driving while in the running mode was on. I drove at 60 mph and the ionic still said I traveled 0 miles and I had the pace of 0 minutes per mile. I moved the watch around and noticed the distance going up, so I started shaking the ionic and noticed the distance slowly going up.Deceivingly and inaccurately, the ionic uses the step count to determine the distance.
Get a Garmin. Even their older vivoactive 3 is a long distance better than the ionic. I know because I switched to the Garmin Vivoactive 3 after struggling with the Ionic.

Sorry, but that is definitely wrong. You get a nice GPS track. I used the Ionic while on runs together with my wife (uses a Garmin FR735) and the measured tracks were nearly identically.
But what is right is, that the Ionic uses the stepcounter to estimate the distance if GPS reception stops during a run.

@benedikt.ebli I hope this is the case for the remaining people using the ionic, but it's not worth the effort to turn the turd back on for testing. The GPS does track the distance because I see the route of 3 miles on Strava, but the data only shows 1 mile. I would welcome and wouldn't mind being proven wrong if you can record a "run" at highway speeds.
Regardless, there are many issues(see the firmware update thread), like constantly defaulting to .5 mile lap, and I have no regrets switching to Garmin. Should've done it sooner.

I love my ionic and my entire family has them, we have had no issues and I run 4 times a week and the gps is spot on
i really don’t get all the negativity about the ionic because we don’t see the same issues

My fingers are crossed for the Ionic 2 to make its debut this year...preferably soon.

I currently run xc/ track in college and having a watch is crucial. I got my ionic when it was first released after having 2 previous Fitbit products. I have liked it ever since but over time the back wore out and sweat/water got in and is making things difficult to say the least. Now I would love to purchase a new Fitbit item but they currently don't offer any watch with a GPS!!!! So there isn't really much I can do anymore because I have waited quite a bit for a new watch to come out. Looks like Fitbit will lose a faithful customer to GARMIN because they fail to update their technology....I CANT EVEN BUY AN IONIC ANYMORE......No stores sell them and you would have to look online to buy used... currently Fitbit has NO GPS WATCHES which is entirely stupid.
