I Love / Mostly Hate my ionic.  I've had so many problems with it over a couple years, from going months with it unable to synch until after many failed firmware updates, and then a firmware update that took 2 full days to complete, it finally started synching again.   Then there's the time zone problem. sigh.  And the problem of clock faces that work one day, and the stop working after awhile, that can't be fixed by removing the face and reinstalling it.  And on multiple occasions I've had it fail during charging - where it goes entirely nonresponsive - and have had to wait days for the battery to die, to kill it,  then charge it again, for it to wake up and work again.

Well, my ionic appears to be truly dead now, as if charging it actually fried it.  Waiting days for it to drain, and charging it again isn't fixing it this time.

I feel trapped in the Fitbit ecosystem. But I would seriously go postal if I were to shell out for a new Ionic, only to see an Ionic 2 announced a week later.

The Ionic is designed solely for men. Ofc its wasn't successful.

I started with Versa 2 and i love it except for the GPS. So i tried the Ionic, but its too ugly... On small wrists like mine it looks like a brick...

I also tried the Garmin vivoactive 4 but i dont like the display and the handling plus there are 2 many unnecessary features.

I've my Ionic for more than 2 years right now, always received great support on any kind of issue with that device, but after this time it starts to trouble with shorter-lasting battery and charging problems as well.

Yes, I'm missing some features. But not desperately. And yes, the Ionic is not perfect. I'm doing an average of more than 10 miles each and every day, weekly at least 160,000 steps, and I tried competing products. Nope, not for me. Yes, some do offer all I'd like to have. But with serious issues. And I'd miss the Fitbit support, on Samsung and Apple it's just bs and no generosity as at Fitbit.

So - I'm waiting for Ionic 2, but in case my Ionic fails finally, right now there is not Fitbit product I'd take as a replacement. No idea which product I'd buy. It is so sad that Google doesn't invest in new Fitbit devices.

For all ppl complaining about "Ionic does not fit for women" - well, I know many ladies being happy with their Ionic, but they're all doing sports instead of gossip and need something more dedicated to their activities than the fancier Fitbit couch potato devices. Size doesn't matter. Function does.

Looks like the latest tracker will be the Charge 4 (available for pre-order today) and NOT an Iconic 2. Charge 4 appears to have all of the features of the Iconic except the fancy watch faces. I upgraded to an Iconic after 2 Blazes. When my Iconic eventually dies will have to see what tracker in the stable at the time has the features that I want (Waterproof and GPS enabled)

Eagle1,

first of all, pls don't kill the frog now that the Eagle is landed, it's just a bite for a bird of prey and not worth anything😁.

The Ionic offers so much more than just a tracker, once you checked out all features you wouldn't like to miss that.

Easy to operate, easy to read while running, that's so different from a tracker. The Ionic has the right size, survived real tough incidents, and yes, it still is a watch, or for collectors of "real" watches, a time indicator. I don't want to go back to a regular watch + a tracker.

I've no clue about the biz strategy of Google for Fitbit, the past updates have been worthless and as always for Amazon, Google, you name it, they're only focused on standing fees for ridiculous "new" app features for this and that.

Well, there was a life before my Ionic, and there will be life once this Ionic is off.

Mine did the same thing. I found and article that told how to restart it. Since doing that I haven't had a problem.

Don't quote me on this because it's been about 4 month but I believe I had to hold down the left-hand button and top right-hand button until it came back on.

I'm a lady and am right there with you. I love my Ionic. If Google screws this up like they have done with every other company they have purchased, I'm not sure what I will do. Definitely not Apple!

@MattSanta22,

Welcome to the community!

Fitbit has announced the Charge 4 which comes with a built-in GPS.  While it does look different than the Ionic, you may want to take a look at it and find if it meets your needs.

I hope this help.

Charging: Try to clean the contacts on both the Ionic and the cable. Additionally, wipe both with something slightly wet. That should fit for 1 complete charge, and making use of a more powerful charger ramps it up.

The point is, that also Matt is doing sports.

If you're active running you don't want to stop to read your tracker, you want information now, from heartbeat to distance, from gps to time. That requires a larger display and buttons like on the Ionic.

Right now as my Ionic needs a wristband replacement again, and the accuracy seems to be decreasing, I'm pretty close purchasing any Samsung crap. Not worse than Apple. Better than Garmin. If there only would be an Ionic 2, I'd be within the first to order.

Hi mine died too? Can’t figure out how to jump start it on the forum. Can you share what you did? Thank you!

Press the left and the lower right button simultaneously for some seconds until the screen sets off and the fitbit logo appears. This will restart your watch.

If you've issues with charging, clean the charger contacts on the watch and on the cable with a wet wipe, or even with some alcohol or water with your fingertip. The device should start charging after this procedure.

The Ionic is a very tough and reliable smartwatch. Doing sport means use it or lose it, unfortunately for any watch on you the correct form is: use it and lose it. Now, after nearly 10k miles with my Ionic the time has come.

Strayfrog ... your instructions are only relevant for watches that aren't malfunctioning.  The Ionic is most definitely not reliable.

Oh hey, and lately Fitbit has been advertising the Ionic in Facebook ads ... and deleting any negative comments from people like me who simply state facts about the product.  Like how you can't force it to update the time after a timezone shift, you have to wait as long as it takes for the watch to decide to do it.  And how you can't correct the time when the battery dies, and it starts with the wrong time after charging - you have to wait for it to eventually decide to do this, despite forcing it to sync.   And don't get too attached to a clockface - because at some point it will stop working, and removing it and reinstalling the watch face won't help.     Oh and gee sorry that it sync'ed just fine for months but then decides to just not sync for weeks even when you force it to. That must be a 'feature' right?

Sorry to read that. I had severe issues on my first Ionic, the service - at that time was the very best in the US - tried its best, finally, they replaced my Ionic for free, and that device is doing a very good job. As I'm traveling globally at least monthly, I feel your pain by always getting the wrong time indicated. It helps to connect the Ionic to a LAN once you arrive, but - that's not done in seconds.

That sync issue always occurs if your watch is (unintentionally) connected to another device, for me that's my laptop computer, instead of to my cell. Airplane mode on - fixed.

Never had any clockface issue, so probably your Ionic is broken. Check your firmware status, maybe that's an older version.

Meanwhile, I tried the apple watch - trash. I tried the Samsung - they're far away from fitbit.

Keep on running!

I was waiting for the Ionic 2 as well but after lots of research made the switch to the Garmin Venu and couldn’t be happier.

if you love having tons of data, make the switch. You’ll be happy you did.

@Strayfrog

Thanks for the reply. I don't kill off fellow Fitbit'ers, it's bad for my image 😄 I do really like my Iconic. However, my biggest issue with it was one of it's biggest selling points (Integrated GPS). I love all of its other features. Guess when this one eventually dies (and it will), We'll just have to see what if anything Fitbit and Google have decided to replace it with!
