@butchman Welcome to the Community. Thanks for participating in the forums.
The apps I found for golf are Golf GPS, Pocket Golf and Game Golf GPS Rangefinder, you may want to navigate in the App Gallery and find if any of this apps show distances at golf courses.
I'll be around if you have any additional questions.

I have downloaded and tried two of the golf apps - Game Golf and Golf GPS. Both seem to be good apps but the problem is that the Ionic keeps switching off the screen when playing and when I tap again to restart the apps have to be reloaded. I tried Game Golf for support - no reply. Havent tried Golf GPS yet. Is this an Ionic problem or an app problem? I bought the Ionic 50% as a golf rangefinder so this is important for me. Thanks

@AidanG It's nice to see you on the Community. Sorry for the delayed reply.
Thanks for the details mentioned. Your Ionic's screen will turn off after a few seconds, no matter which app you're using. In this case, you may want to turn on the Always-On display in order to have it on while you're using the Game Golf app. Learn more about it by checking this article: How do I navigate my Fitbit device's screen?

Thanks for that. I cant see any way in the general settings to set Always On? If I select an exercise like walk I can turn it on for that exercise but will that get overturned once I start the Golf Game app?
It wasnt clear from the help how to do this.

@AidanG I don't think @SilviaFitbit will mind that I am jumping in. When you swipe left to get to the Settings icon (gear) and tap on it, the third choice should be the Always On option. If you are going to use this option, start your round with a fully charged Ionic. And don't turn it on until you are ready to start. It is a battery hog.

I looked at that. I have the Ionic. When I do that I dont get any option for Always On? In sequence I get:

Screen Timeout
Sleep Mode
Do Not Disturb
Screen wake Auto or Manual
Vibrations
Left Button
Bluetooth
Heart Rate

@AidanG I think I gave you incorrect information. The Always On screen might be just for the Versa 2, but I am doing more searching.

@AidanG I am so very sorry that I gave you bad information. I looked at both manuals and that Always On display is for the Versa 2 and not the Ionic. 😥 And we both have the same up-to-date firmware.
My searching showed me that the Versa 2 has some clock faces that have an Always On option. Do they exist for the Ionic. Some Always On clock faces are grouped separately in the clock face choices for the Versa 2.

@LZeeW Thanks a lot for your help. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I didn't realize either that the always on display option isn't yet available for Ionic.
I found this idea: Ionic screen always on These suggestions are reviewed by our team and the status changes based in Fitbit's plans. You can show your support by voting and commenting on it.

Thanks you - I have done that. I will also try to find an always on Clockface.
Very surprised at the lack of response from the actual app developers! is that typical? Very hard to understand why someone would develop/launch an app and then ignore feedback when the app is unworkable.

I cant find any Always On Clockface for the Ionic.
I did check the settings in individual exercises such as Golf and Swim and there is actually an option for Always On. Maybe that would work? Or would there be a conflict trying to run an exercise such as golf at the same time as running a third party app?

@AidanG Thanks for getting back. Since, always-on is available for swim and golf you're able to use this option but this will be available only while you're performing these activities.

Hi Silvia,
You seem to be the authority on golf gps. I currently am using a Charge 3, my third FitBit and it is dying after two plus years. Meanwhile I also lost my golf gps, so looking for the best solution and am hoping you have heard good results from Golf GPS Rangefinder. Are there pluses and minuses as to which FitBit watch is MOST compatible with the app? I've already spotted a case where it didn't work with a Versa 2, so I can avoid that one, but are some better than others to use with this app?

Hi @SilviaFitbit!
I’m having trouble with the game golf app. In order to use the app on my Ionic I must log in through the fitbit app on my phone, but I keep getting this error message:
«TypeError: An SSL error has occured and a secure connection to the server cannot be made»
Can you please help?
Thanks!

@ChicagoBill Hi there.
Thank you for sharing detailed information. The Golf GPS Rangefinder wasn't developed by Fitbit, while checking the description, the app requires a payment of $4.99 annually and includes many features. In this case, it's better to contact the app developer for more information about it.
@stian_nilsen Welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for the details shared. This error is usually associated with a network error, please try an alternative network.
Hope this helps.
