Are you satisfied with your Fitbit Ionic?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Having received so many negative aswers (which, by the way, I share) I really wish to know if most people or just some people are disatisfied with this product?

I won't ask again if Fitbit Ionic is worthwhile buying. I just want to know who is satisfied with the device?

I am terribly deceived with my third trial.

Hoping that it is not everybody's case?

I haven't had any issues with the tracker itself, just a few syncing issues when I switch trackers.

I like it - works great with the Nokia 8.

I use it for

a) contactless payment - multiple times every day. It is so easy and comfortable.

b) listening to audiobooks in the gym - twice every week. No unhandy Handy (mobile) to carry with me.

c) read/short replay to whatsup and sms - multiple times every day.

d) monitor heartbeat in the gym - twice every week.

e) store some data i always forget like fax number, personal id number, ....

ahhh - of course also to see time, date, weekday 🙂

Really, really wanted to love my Ionic. I started with the Surge and found the functionality easy and performance accurate and dependable so I felt confidant in upgrading to the Ionic. Unfortunately, I've had the opposite experience. It LOOKS amazing, and is easy to read, but performance wise I've had tons of issues. I still have been unsuccessful in loading music which I was even willing to overlook but recently after only six months in, it no longer connects to GPS when going for a run. I've tried factory resets, updates, and every other fix on the internet. So for almost $300 no music, and no GPS. The app store is also not much to write home about. Really disappointed because it does look pretty.

Interesting to hear about all the problems.  This is my experience posted earlier.

Did have multiple problems as well but persevered through them to get my Ionic to work adequately.  The restart did not work for me.  That was useless.  Had to do a full reset back to new and reload.  Took hours but did work for me.  WIFI does disconnect and sometimes can be very flaky making syncing near impossible.  Had to make sure WIFI was strong and continually connected before it would finish syncing.  So process is much more clunky and slow vs a simple fast cable connection with Apple.

But does what is important for me like playing music on its own and syncing GPS data to Strava both ways over WIFI.

My watch has actually crashed a number of times and rebooted on its own so there are definite stability issues.  Had bluetooth connections problems as well with the Jabra Elite Active but was able to get a consistent pairing after a complete reset back to new.  All my other bluetooth devices paired up fine.

Songs do take forever (hours) to transfer over WIFI and initial connections sometimes get lost making the experience frustrating.  Notifications appear but depending on the phone and software version you may or may not be able to respond directly.

So a number of bugs yet to quash.  Watch faces and Apps do load via the App and some are pretty good for free.  But bottom line is will keep this watch and even just ordered a couple different aftermarket straps for some variety.

If you want music onboard and bluetooth and Strava this watch can do it standalone.  Even with all its shortcomings the watch is a definite buy when compared to other offerings.

Fitbit is aware of most these problems as have contacted them directly by phone.  Was told calls are recorded and tech support does review them to improve the product.  In the end reset the Jabra plus went to the very time consuming option of resetting the Ionic back to new losing all music stored etc.  But finally the Jabra now pairs consistently and as expected.

So the Ionic can work ok.  But definitely has growing pains like Apple does with new products or updates to OSX or iOS software.  Fitbit does need to work on these problems right away if they want to keep purchasers from throwing away or returning their watches.  That is paramount.”

Just got off phone about a known problem of not having text quick responses work using an “approved” android phone. So will see if anything is done to fix that anytime soon.  The phone quick responses do work.  Was then told that the .19 was the latest update which was wrong.  The .24 is.  Do appreciate their help but they do need more informed people in customer support plus a lot of software fixes.  Understand the amount of frustration though.  Fitbit needs to correct the problems pronto.

Really there is no need to suffer in Frustration - simply call Tech Support at 877-623-4997 and get your Ionic replaced right now while you can
Many have followed this straightforward advice and now have a replacement Ionic - we all should have “zero tolerance” for any defective Ionic

Ya I love its looks too, and I agree with the app store comment, most of the apps don't even work on my Windows 10 phone. I'll have to check the GPS on mine as I have just started using it, and pretty armature as far as fitness and exercise goes. I have seen that some exercises have an option for the GPS in the settings, not sure if that's an issue with yours or not, but in order to get some things to work on my Windows device I needed to go into privacy and location settings and manually give access to the fitbit app , like motion data, location, phone, notifications etc. I doubt this though has to do with your no GPS issue though. I was able to get music on my device using the Windows desktop app. After making my playlist and dragging my files and then hitting the circle, I had to goto the Ionic player and click the Transfer Music button, but also needed to have it plugged in to charger. This worked for me.

Not at all, I ended up with an Ionic after having continued issues with the flex2 band, and this was the only one at the time that was suitable for swimming. One of the key basic parts that the watch is suppose to be able to do is notifications, accoridng to Fitbit their is a known issue with their notifications working, ive had issues for over 6 weeks and still not resolved.

It wouldn't be an issue if they could just say when they are going to fix it, but how good is their technology if they cant fix a known issue in 6 weeks or give any indication of how ling it will take to fix.

It’s really disappointing. The syncing does my head in, face stopped displaying updates ages ago and then they took the marathon away. Changing product. My old Fitbit was great, Ionic sucks.

Couldn’t agree more, seems Fitbit have put to much technology in the ionic that they can’t maintain.

very bad quality and totally wasted my money 250US$ for nothing

it worked less than a year

This is very bad feeling and no support from the customer department.

I would suggest that someone at Fitbit starts to realize how customers are disappointed by such product !

I have two Ionics actually, one which I won as a prize and the other one I bought before.

Both I do not use anymore for their terrible inacurracy and lack of usefulness for my priorities.

I actually need a sports tool, to help me prepare, track and analyse my runs. The Ionic is not fulfilling this task, it is more a fitness tracker with some very basic sports functions targeted mostly at amateurs.

My main complaints were the inacurracy of the step counter, massive inacurracy of OHR, lack of possibility to pair chest straps or foot pods.

Meanwhile I found a watch which perfectly achieves all these points while even having a fairly reliable OHR sensor as a bonus.

Unfortunately I can't sell these Ionics, as I fear buyers would be quite angry and feel tricked if I sell them this junk.

Maybe will give them away as a gift, to someone I don't like much...

I'll take them if you don't want them.

If needed, I will say something mean about you so that you don't like me.

Hi,

I got my Ionic for Christmas, I had always loved Fitbit's prior, having the charge 2 and surge previously. I am beyond disappointed with the Ionic, I discovered during set up that the Strava app was a shadow app, next to useless for what I wanted it for. Moving past that, I have found that my ionic doesn't hold charge when going on longer runs. I am marathon training, My Ionic was on 43% charge, I thought it would be ok for an 8 mile run but it died just under 6 hours (only saving grace was fitbit saved my run even though my phone was at home)

This morning after charging it yesterday to over 100% I came home to a battery of 36% for a 10 mile run.

My disappointment is, this watch will not last for a marathon. so now, I am looking for a new watch and will be returning my ionic.

@NatNat1 are you keeping the display always on?

I had no problem to run my last marathon in 4h 30' having 23% battery left.

So far since Black Friday purchase zero issues. Firmware update went without issues. Has been synching and recharging just fine. I'm surprised at the number of people having problems with their Ionics.

Hi,
Aww ace! I’m looking at the same time (hopefully)
no the screen doesn’t come on until I press a button when it’s not in use, I have no notifications on I don’t use any of the apps, I’ve turned off splits/mile notifications.
As far as I am aware it isn’t displaying my running efforts whilst I’m running, I say this as the screen is quite bright in the dark but I can’t see anything from my wrist, though to check what settings would I need to go into?
My 10 miles was in 1HR 50 so it’s not the amount of time I’m out.
Or maybe it is and I’ve not realised yet that Fitbit is secretly working to increase my pace...

Kind Regards

Natalie

When it works it's fine, but most will fail too often. I had two fail in 13 months because of the faulty seal that allows for water damage. Most of you will find your watch fail well before a $300 watch should with no option for repair. Trust me when I say that when you watch fails at 13 months and they ask you to buy a new one you won't be writing a favorable review.
