Hi Community. Very late to Fitbit. Been through more running devices than I can remember. Mostly been a Garmin guy. I call myself a senior citizen body metrics data running geek. Closing in on 75 and am fortunate enough to still be running 40-50 miles a week.
Liked the looks of the Ionic and decided to give it a try. Expect delivery Monday. I am impressed with the forum, but disappointed with the number of issues presented by members and the lethargic responses from Fitbit. Not sure why the numerous issues have not been corrected with timely updates. Very different from the response that Garmin gives to most issues. Currently running with a Vivoactive3.
Will let you know what an old fart thinks about the Ionic after putting some miles on it.
keep running, there is no finish line. Nick

Welcome to the Community, @LongRunNick! Hopefully the bugs will be worked out soon, but for the most part the Ionic works good. Not only is the Ionic a new hardware platform for Fitbit, but it operates on a new operating system (OS) that has to be fine tuned. As an old (as in your age range) retired computer systems engineer, I can appreciate the issues they are facing right now with a new OS, a new smartwatch, and new scales all at the same time.
Hope to see you around the forums a lot. You might want to also check out the Lifestyle Discussion Forums, such as Get Moving and Be Inspired.

@LongRunNickI'm the 78 yr one in this post and like @USAF-Larry come from a similar background and feel for Fitbit engineers with all of the variables in their efforts to make their public happy. I have no on going problems with the Ionic and using it on a non Fitbit compatible mobile.. Everything I use works, including all notifications of emails, messages and phone calls. Occasional syncing issues which we resolve.
Even my trusty Fitbit One is still going after nearly 5 years, always keeps my step count honest on the wrist type Fitbits... Sad that it has been discontinued because of those that just need a calorie counting pedometer. with the floor counting..
