Battery life 1 day with constant GPS

Argos are claiming that the battery life on the Ionic is only 1 day if you use GPS. Surely this can't be right. Is it.

I certainly won't be buying it.

It's nice to see you around @pastorayers12!

Thanks for letting us how your Fitbit is working while tracking GPS workouts. Fitbit Ionic can last up to 5 days between charges. Because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary. In your case you're using 3 different features that use a lot of energy, so we need to confirm how is the battery life of your Ionic working in normal use.

Was your Ionic fully charged that day? How many days is lasting your the battery of your Ionic in a normal week?

Usually we suggest these tips when you want to conserve battery life:

  • Turn off the option to wake the screen when you turn your wrist:
    • On your watch, press and hold the back button, then swipe to the quick settings screen > Screen Wake > Manual.
  • If you don't need heart rate data, change the Heart Rate setting to Off. Note that the green LED continues to flash even if Heart Rate is turned off.
  • Turn off notifications from your phone if you know you're going to receive many hundreds of notifications. A large volume reduces battery life:
    • On your watch, press and hold the back button, then swipe to the quick settings screen > Notifications > Off.
  • Charge your watch more often if:
    • You play music or use the music controls frequently
    • You use apps that keep the watch's screen on, use GPS, or frequently access the internet
    • You use an interactive or animated clock face
  • Receive fewer reminders to move. Make sure you walk 250 steps each hour, change the number of hours you want your stationary time monitored, or turn off the feature on days you don't need it.
  • Turn off or delete alarms. Each alarm reduces battery life.
  • Shut down Ionic when it's not in use. For instructions, see How do I turn off my Fitbit device?
  • If you use the Fitbit app, make sure All-Day Sync is turned off. All-Day Sync increases battery drain on both your tracker and mobile device. To find the setting, open the app and tap Account. At the top of the screen tap Ionic to see your settings, then scroll down.
  • (Android only) Turn off the Always Connected setting. Similar to All-Day Sync, it can reduce battery life.

You can try to restart your Ionic, in case that you think it is having hardware issues.

I'll be around, please keep me posted.

Have a great day!

Hi @drycrrek! Please receive a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community!

Thanks for reporting the battery issues that your Ionic is having.

Please try to clean the contacts of your Ionic. These contacts can become obstructed by microscopic dirt or debris that prevents them from making a good connection to the charger. Use a toothpick or toothbrush to clean the charging contacts; do not scrape them with anything metal because this may damage the plating and result in corrosion.

Also restart your Ionic, if you haven't do so. How are you changing your Ionic? We recommend plugging your charging cable into a USB port on your computer or other low-energy device. If necessary, you can use a UL-certified USB wall charger. Don't use a USB hub or battery pack to charge, and only use the charging cable that came with your Fitbit device. Please take a look of these recommendations to charge your Fitbit too.

I'll be around if you need anything else!
