As many many many many many many members have stated the latest and (not so) greatest firmware update has bricked the ionic to varying degrees to totally useless paperweights. It has also happened to me. And totally disgusted with the lack of ownership of responsibility for the direct causality of the issue and sufficient rectifications.
I have tried various different troubleshooting fixes set out in the forum's with very limited success. I fell in love with the Fitbit and was a transformed person revelling in its features and now I want to revwrt asback to my pre Fitbit self who hadn't enjoyed the features at all rather than be this frustrated and annoyed.
So just an informal data gathering exercise to help decide on what my next smart watch should be, probably definitely NOT A FITBIT!

I have owned Fitbit for a long time and never had issues until the past 5 months. I loved my Ionic but got tired of my runs dropping and having trouble on every update. I switched to Apple Watch 3 gps and I really like it. I do miss my Ionic but not the problems that seem to be happening frequently for many people. Good luck on your search.

I loved my Ionic but after all the problems I've had (with Surges too in the past), I'll NEVER ever buy another Fitbit product. £250 for a piece of junk that can't handle an update. Fitbit have cost us money and won't admit to it.

quite a few on these forums have moved over to garmin, i bought a vivoactive 3 music ( i couldnt get hold of a 4), its awesome, doesnt miss a beat in any aspect, before the update i always thought my ionic was good, update changed all that, but the syncing and updating the garmin does has highlighted how frustrating the ionic really was.
This week the garmin buzzed and i looked at it, the message said it had updated the software, did it on its own without any issues at all...marvellous. The heart rate sensor matches my charge 2, the ionic was always 6 to 10bpm higher.
theres plenty of options out there
I would add, had fitbit said back in december " were aware of the problem and are going to fix this asap" i may well have persevered with the ionic, but fitbit dont care.

@tonupkid - I agree. Just needed to hear from @FitBit on when and how my Ionic will be brought back to functional state. But all I heard is that it is out of warranty and FitBit will not do anything about it!
Not a dollar more to FitBit!

Completely sad to me. I've owned my ionic for a while and I'm a total tech geek. I loved most of my ionic. Especially how consistent it was. Then new update. Yeah I'll update. New features?? Nope just bricked my device and Fitbit will not own it. Or apologize. No I don't want 25% off. What would I buy? I bought the ionic because it is a fitness smart watch (sort of). I only want updates and the fitness. I don't want a band (lame). Versa isn't a fitness device (no gps). Who does that? Says they are a fitness company and puts no gps in their supposed too of the line supposed smart watch. It isn't smart. It can't track a simple run accurately. Fitbit is a dying company. It's sad. All I want is for them to fix my ionic. But they won't even admit they broke it. Even though they just instantly dropped a new update.
