I pre-ordered my Ionic from Fitbit.com on day one, over a month ago. My projected delivery date is now pushed back to October 2. I'm in New Jersey.
Those of us who pre-ordered did Fitbit a favor. We helped them gauge demand for the product. We're some of its most faithful brand ambassadors. We're the early adopters who are enthused enough about Fitbit products to take the plunge before anyone else and to buy from Fitbit directly.
And in return for our devotion, Fitbit relegates those of us who chose standard delivery to the likes of FedEx's beleaguered SmartPost. This service is often worse than snail mail, and is near universally despised by people who actually prefer to receive their parcels in a timely manner. And despite waiting until literally the last day of the promised "3 to 4 week" shipping window, they chose a service known for lengthy delays rather than upgrading us automatically, for free, to expedited shipping.
You've really messed this up, Fitbit. You've irritated the fans who (formerly) were the ones championing your brand online. To quote a Julia Roberts' character from Pretty Woman, "Big mistake. Big. Huge."

I hate to say this, but a better delivery option may have worked out (I never use standard delivery on something I want fast). Bottom line, it's coming, not just as fast as you initially thought, totally get it..

Maybe you are just unlucky, my friend ordered with standard and received expedited, I ordered with expedited and got next day air! Very generous of fitbit and I am grateful.

I think it should be noted that October 1st is a Sunday. Most carriers, despite speed of delivery, do not deliver on Sundays which is not Fitbit's fault. As Fitbit cannot send you a product before it's released to the public, the 2nd is the closest delivery date. Additionally, there is no doubt that Fitbit makes some kind of margin on these products or else they would not sell them. But, as for any electronic these days, there is almost no money to be made on the device itself. If they had paid the $30 a person to ensure your product arrives on a Sunday they may actually take a loss on the product.
While it makes sense that you'd like a product you ordered on the release date you may want to consider the actual real world logic behind your 24 hour delay.

I ordered Aug 31, chose regular delivery, was supposed to get it Thursday, arrived Wednesday (9/27)
instead. SmartPost must not work the same for everybody.

Naw. FedEx smart post is just crappy. Now I know that is fitbits shipping of choice when it comes to free. I won’t be doing that again.
