Bluetooth headphones drop out after 30mins

Hi Fitbit team,

Firstly I would like to say that I love my ionic and accept that being a brand new product it may come with some bugs, however is there any chance in sorting a the Bluetooth issue. Halfway through my run the headphones cut out so I have to logout of my run repair them with my headphones and start another logged run. Any chance of looking into this.

Best Regards.

I had this yesterday too while I tried the music player for the first time during a workout. After 30 minutes the music dropped and my headset said "connection lost".

This must be a bug and should be changed quickly.

I had the same issue that I thought I solved. I disconnected the headset and signed out of Pandora then powered down and restarted my Ionic and after re-pairing the headset everything was fine for about two hours till I finally turned off the headphones thinking everything was working. This morning during my workout the connection dropped again after 30 minutes.

I was listening to Pandora with a Pandora Plus subscription and thought it was a timeout issue so it would be helpful to know if you were listening to downloaded music or on a Pandora account.

Hi rfjouben,

the bluetooth headphones I use are Dr Beats 2 and I was listening to download music from my IONIC and due to being in the UK I don’t have access to pandora.

That's super weird. I go on walks that normally last between 45 mins and an hour and I have not experienced this. I listen to Pandora while walking and I pair my Anker headphones with it. I haven't had a single issue with it. Well, I take that back. Every now and then sound will skip but it normally only does it a couple of times and then it's back to normal. But I've never experienced the connection just dropping.

Thanks Matt_Skinner and hs100789.

That helps rule out a possible issue with Pandora timing out. Do you have another device on you that is also paired with the headset. I am trying to see if somehow my iPhone is trying to pair with the headset and is disconnecting the phone.

Thanks

Just to complete this: I was using a Jabra Sports Pulse BT Headset and was listening to a normal playlist. After about 30 mins (I didn't look at the clock) the connection was lost. Restarting the BT Headset doesn't reconnect, but I wanted to continue my exercise so I didn't any other attempts.

Friday is my next gym day and I will try again.

I assume we are also all tracking the exercise in addition to playing music? Trying to eliminate possible issues to see if this is just a Bluetooth issue or a possibly something else playing into the situation.

Yes, workout tracking was active, GPS off (indoor training).

I did not have another device that was also paired with the headset. I haven't been carrying my phone with me on my walks since the Ionic has built-in GPS and music.

And I was tracking an exercise (a walk) when I was listening to music through bluetooth.

No just the watch

I solved the issue, I think.

I disconnected and then paired the headset again and then did a restart (simply turned the watch off and on) everything worked fine for over 90 minutes during a workout. Hope this helps.

I'm going to try this.  Hopefully, it helps.

Just a side note, it seems as though everybody's complaint is the music disconnects at (after) 30 minutes.  I found that mine disconnected while I was using the GPS at the two mile mark.  It's simple to reconnect.  If you press and hold down the right top button, you can quickly reconnect the BT earphones.

Really appreciate the info, I will try that next time.

First time using my Ionic today with playlist music on the watch.

Apple Airpods disconnected at the 30 min mark.  I was doing a "Weights" workout at the time, so i had to cancel the workout, go into Bluetooth settings and re-pair, then start a new workout.

A couple things that need fixing:

1)  The 30 minute cutout

2)  Pressing shortcut button to the music page, the DEVICE button does nothing - it just turns purple when touched, but no effect

3)  Need the ability to temporarily leave your workout to access other features of the watch, such as Settings in order to re-pair

4)  Volume control doesn't work with Airpods (known issue)

Try pressing and holding down the right top button.  You should be able to reconnect your buds/headphones.  Then press "pause/play button" on your buds/headphones.  This can all be done without interrupting your workout.  The display on your Ionic will eventually change back to your workout.

^^^Thanks for that, but could you be more specific?

If I long press the top right button, it takes me to the music page, where it says "NO OUTPUT DEVICE".

I then tap the 3 little bubbles that take me to the music sub-menu where there is a button that says "DEVICE".  When I push this button, it turns purple, but nothing happens.

Also, Airpods have no PLAY/PAUSE button per se, but rather you tap the earbud to PLAY/PAUSE (at least with Android - I haven't tried that function yet with the Ionic)

After you select device, scroll down (swipe up).  You should see your airpods.  Click on "airpods" and they should reconnect automatically.  The music should begin/pick up where you left off once you tap the airpods.

That does not work.

Once the Airpods disconnect, that DEVICE button does nothing.  You have to go to the BLUETOOTH page in the SETTINGS to reconnect.  Hence the problem as you can only access SETTING after you have exited a workout.
