Brand new Fitbit Iconic - no charging from box

Good evening,

I bought the Fitbit Ionic early this afternoon and would have liked to have a little more info in the box on how to know the tracker was in fact charging, but have tried both plugging into a USB wall port and plugging in via the included cable to my laptop, for now 3 hours and I can see nothing on the screen and no indication it has charged. I have found from comments online that the tracker should vibrate when it is plugged in and this has not occured. When plugging into my computer and installing the software, which I had hoped would allow for syncing and thus charging, the software states 'Wireless Sync Dongle is Disconected' - though not sure why anything 'wireless is needed when I'm plugged in with the provided cable. Have also seen comments on the forum here about a 'reset' using the left and right, lower button and tried to no avail.

To summarise - is my Iconic broken?

the dongle and charging are separate issues. you are lining up the magnet with the little prongs on the back securely and plugging into a computer or the wall and nothing happens? If it is completely dead it will be dead for a few minutes and then you will see the fitbit logo and then it will go to whatever the preset is, I don't remember now. Then you will be able to start setting it up through the app. It will start searching so make sure your Bluetooth is on and it will take you through the set up. you will have to enter the code, etc etc. you can try to reset it while it is charging just in case. While it is plugged in hold in the lower right and the middle left buttons ( at the same time) until you see the fitbit logo. It could take 15 seconds or so... if all fails contact support.. here is the link to the help page http://help.fitbit.com/?l=en_US

When i got mine I had to press the single button for about 10 seconds. It then booted no problem. Don't know if this helps?

Thanks for the replies guys. It became clear it really was an issue with the kit itself and took it back. No charging at all and no amount of fiddling with the cable and magnet could get it working. Took back to shop, replaced and ni issues since - charged ip first time. Bad first experience but working great so far.
