Buying Fitbit ionic

Hi, I was really excited about purchasing Fitbit ionic. But have noticed a lot of negative comments on here about it. Lots of glitches and bugs at the moment. Is the ionic really that bad or has anyone any positive reviews?

I have had no problems with mine. Everything works as advertised. It completely meets my expectations. Battery life is superb, gps is spot on, i get notifications, heart rate tracks very closely to chest straps I've compared...

Some people have issues. But I think the vast majority don't and don't post here because they don't need to.

But, you can always give it time, let the watch mature before buying one if you're still uncertain.

I agree with @SunsetRunner I have had some syncing issues (but they seem to be affecting most trackers atm) but appart from that everything works well and I love it. Best tracker I have had. You need to remember that the happy customers tend not to post on help forums. If is mostly people who want help!

I agree  - other than intermittent syncing issues all has worked flawlessly. Just looking forward to UK Banks signing up with Fitbit pay and and  hopefully Spotify coming onboard and of course the App Gallery!!!

Thanks for your replies. I agree that people would normally just be looking for help on forums instead of writing the positives , I am more excited now about receiving it again lol.

Has anybody set up fitbit coach? I know there are three free mini workouts on the ionic but with Fitbit coach is that still just for use on phone/laptop etc or can workouts be seen on ionic screen ?

I have not really used the three free coach exercises, but checking it out I see a short animation to show how to do the exercise, then when ready to engage, pressing the lower right button brings up a timer while one executes the exercise. Then you move on to the next animation and exercise to progress through the workout.

Be aware - when you first get your Ionic, it might have Developer version of software (I think they ship that way... mine did). The Coach app will not always install for some reason (it did not on mine). You have to request to revert to the Production software. There is a pinned post here that tells you how to do that. It's annoying because you set up your Fitbit, then do a factory reset and set up your fitbit again.

I do not know if you can follow the steps in advance so that you get the production software from the beginning, but you might try that, and save a step.

Apart from synching issues, I've had no problems with mine. Most people who post on here tend to need help with their device, so I would take that into account with a grain of salt when making a final decision. A quick Google search may give you a more straightforward review.

Waiting another 4 to 5 months seems like a good approach. If you desire to buy it anyway buy it directly from Fitbit so you have a money back guarantee for 45 days. When things don't work to your expectations don't wait for a software update but return the product.

I couldn't wait , I received it today. Haven't had much time to use it because I've only set it up. Have noticed it's not tracking flights of stairs at home (the only stairs I've used since I got it)

its bigger than I thought it would be but very lightweight. Barely feel it on to be honest. I am impressed so far. But I'm going to give it the 45 days test lol Because I got direct from Fitbit.

Thanks everyone for replies. 😊

They are working on version 1.1 of the Fitbit OS and I think that may solve a host of problems. I use a friends watch to develop software, but I won't buy one until I see the 1.1 revisions, but that's just me.

It tracks flight by 10' increments as determined by an altimeter.  Most homes stairs are 9-10', and altimeter are not 100% accurate.  Sadly, this means that sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't.  I get credit for going up my stairs in the house about 80% of the time.

Unfortunately, all company's trackers that count flight is stairs utilize the same technology, so no one out there has anything "better" than Fitbit.
