Calories: Ionic vs Charge 2?

Can someone who has tested the Ionic and the Charge 2 answer the question if the all-day calories of these devices are around the same or different?

@Sasan Welcome to the Fitbit family! Thanks for your question about calories from these devices.

By "all-day calories", do you mean your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)? These are the calories we burn just by being alive (breathing, brain activity, heart beats, sleeping, etc.), and are automatically calculated by your Fitbit dashboard.

The amount of calories given should be the same if the personal information you entered on the dashboard are the same too (height, weight, age, gender, etc.). It shouldn't matter if you are using a Charge 2 or an Ionic, if that data is the same, it should give the same amount of BMR.

Please let me know if this is what you are asking. Keep me posted! Smiley Very Happy

no I mean all-day calories! That are BMR and active calories from walking, running, doing stuff etc.

@Sasan Thanks for your reply and clarification!

Yes, the all-day calories should show about the same on both devices. I found both very accurate. Difference is that Ionic has more features. But, yes, calories burned should show around the same amount.

Keen to hear if there are any users here that had tested this also?

So did you test both devices side-to-side-? Do you think they have the same algorithm? I know the heart rate sensor of the ionic is better and can register HiiT and weight training better and therefore the calories are higher for these training types on the ionic, but other than that it is the same, especially walking and non-training calories from normal movements during the day?

Thanks!

@Sasan Thanks for your reply! Normal movements should track around the same amount of calories burned. Not sure about the algorithm.

It seems that there are no other users who might help us with this. Have you checked the Charge 2 Board already? Maybe you can find some insight on how calories burned are tracked with that one.

I'd recommend trying the Ionic out to see if it really covers all of your needs. As per the warranty, you have 45 days in case you'd like to return it for a refund. You should give it a try!
